Practically it is implemented so - the operator equipment of IPTV transfers, and the subscriber equipment accepts stream video. The term "stream video" embraces in itself technologies of compression, reduction and buffering of video and data which provide video transmission in real time via the Internet. The main feature of a streaming video is that the user should not expect loading of the file to start its viewing. Information of a streaming video is sent continuously, in the form of the sequence of IP packets, decoded by subscriber devices and displayed as is accepted by the equipment.

IPTV is a platform which is created and controlled by the operator-supplier of telecommunication structures. The consumer interacts directly with the operator. In this sense the operator of services of IPTV almost does not differ from the existing cable cameramen. All infrastructure of such network belongs to the operator and is inaccessible from the Internet. The devices connected to this network are controlled by the operator.

Equipment

For viewing transfers in IPTV networks (streaming video) the special prefix to the TV, in modern terminology - Set top Box (STB) which on the one hand is connected to network of the operator (the broadcasting environment) is used, and with another - has connection with the TV or the computer. The subscriber STB device decodes video data and displays the decrypted video of the TV.

Components of whole

The following components, as a rule, are a part of the IPTV complex:

• the management system for a complex and services or IPTV Middleware is a middle software;
• system of acceptance and processing of content;
• system of protection of content;
• system of video servers;
• quality control system of flows and client equipment.

Functioning of the IPTV systems is based on protocols:

• UDP — for transfer of a streaming video.
• HTTP — for the organization of the user services.
• RTSP — for management of broadcasting flows.
• RTP — for transfer of a streaming video.
• IGMP — for management of broadcasting flows.

Client part

In addition to the basic purpose - TV broadcasting, the IPTV system can include a number of additional services, such as video telephony, access to informational portals of the operator and to the Internet, network games.

In the IPTV systems there is a possibility of use within one video series of two and more audio channels, for example in the Russian and English languages. As advantage of IPTV over analog and cable telecasting it is possible to call more high image quality and a sound: up to HD (high resolution - engl. High Definition) and a sound in format 5.1.

But the main difference from the services provided by the cable or radio TV is interactivity, i.e. an opportunity for the subscriber - to select and change players of services and if desired to order an additional service, for example, additional paid watching the movie.
