In Russia, they created a material for implants with the properties of different types of bones. It will speed up bone regeneration

On October 30, 2023, scientists from the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNIPU) announced the creation of a material capable of combining the qualities of various types of bone tissue. The results of the study are published in the Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials. Read more here.

In Russia, they began to create implants from new materials similar to bone tissue

Russia has developed a technology for the production of biomimetic implants with a given permeability. This was reported on September 11, 2023 in Skoltech, whose specialists participated in the implementation of the project together with colleagues from MISIS University and St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University.

With selective laser melting, we can make an ordered porous structure and adapt the mechanical properties of the implant to the patient's bone by varying the porosity and pore size even at the design stage. Another advantage of the approach is the possibility of modeling and manufacturing implants with gradient porous structures, - explained a researcher at Skoltech Stanislav Chernyshikhin, whose words are quoted by the press service of the university.

Type of experimental device for measuring permeability and a sample with a porous structure

Now, according to scientists, it is possible to design an implant that will be comparable to real bone not only in mechanical properties, but also in permeability. The researchers have already completed the next stage of work together with colleagues from the laboratory of superelastic biointerfaces of Tomsk State University. By tomography, they restored the shape of the missing part of the bone of the patient who will undergo cranioplastic surgery in the nasal septum. Scientists at Skoltech made a design of the porous structure of the future tissue cell scaffold, formed by cells of the gyroidal type, and produced 3D printing implants from nitinol.

The results showed that the larger the implant's specific surface area, the easier the cells attach to them, but the greater the porosity, the better the transport of substances and the better they will grow. Thus, the best result will be achieved taking into account as large factors as possible, such as mechanical properties, permeability, specific surface area, and so on, - said Chernyshikhin.[1]

Perm company creates the production of artificial joints and endoprostheses for 1.5 billion rubles

The Ural Scientific Research Institute of Composite Materials (UNIIKM) and its subsidiary Uglekon signed an agreement with Promsvyazbank (PSB) on cooperation in creating the production of medical devices for orthopedics and surgery. The press service of the credit institution announced this at the end of August 2023. Read more here.

The Burdenko hospital began to use an innovative antibacterial coating for implants

Scientists at Tomsk Polytechnic University have developed antibacterial calcium phosphate coatings for titanium intraosseous implants. Modified implants have better biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, as well as shorten the recovery time of bone tissues. The new technology has already begun to be used in clinical practice at the Burdenko hospital, the press service of the university said on August 22, 2023. Read more here.

Individual polymer implants created at the Kurchatov Institute

On July 13, 2023, representatives of the Kurchatov Institute announced the creation of individual polymer implants for the spine.

As reported, the spinal cage is a structure that during surgery on the spine is installed in place of the destroyed intervertebral disk to fuse neighboring vertebrae damaged as a result of injuries or diseases. For July 2023, non-decomposable materials are used to create such structures, which remain inside the body forever, and can potentially cause complications. Scientists at the Kurchatov Institute Research Center have created a biodegradable cage that tightly connects the vertebrae, and after their fusion, at a given time, is replaced by the patient's bone tissue.

Rosatom to create import-substituting production of titanium implants for traumatology and orthopedics

RuSat MetalTech LLC, a divisional integrator in the direction of Metallurgy of the Fuel Company of Rosatom TVEL, has established a subsidiary of RuSat Implant LLC, on the basis of which the production of import-substituting titanium implants for osseous and intraosseous osteosynthesis will be implemented. TVEL announced this on June 6, 2023. Read more here.

2022: Magadan begins to build a plant for the production of implants for traumatology and orthopedics for 2.6 billion rubles

A plant for the production of implants for orthopedics and traumatology will be built in Magadan. Investments in the project will amount to 2.6 billion rubles. This was announced by the Governor of the Magadan Region Sergei Nosov at a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov in September 2022.

Production will ensure uninterrupted delivery of goods to large logistics hubs of the Far East and the Asia-Pacific region [note Zdrav.Expert]. The production of implants will allow the region to take a leading place in the market of implants for traumatology and orthopedics, to replace the share of imported products due to stable high quality and low production and logistics costs in the manufacture of final products, the governor added.

Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov made a working trip to the Magadan region and, together with the Governor of the region Sergei Nosov, discussed the development of the region's industry

Denis Manturov noted that together with subordinate organizations, work is regularly carried out to monitor the market and the production of medical devices. Deputy Prime Minister - Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade also supported the initiative of the Magadan Region to create a competence center for the production of implants in the Far East.

The need for medical devices for traumatology and orthopedics Russia Ministry of Industry and Trade in c was estimated at 3 million units per year. The profile market for traumatology and orthopedics is estimated at 50 billion rubles. To Moscow The site of the CITO subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade operates. It is assumed that on the basis of the enterprise on an area of 10.8 thousand square meters. m will produce more than 500 types of medical devices for traumatology and orthopedics, which, according to the ministry, will cover a third of the needs of the Russian market. Since 2016, the volume of investments in the reconstruction and rearmament of CITO has exceeded 3.65 billion rubles.

In January 2022, the Russian Government allocated 2.765 billion rubles to the TSITO branch in Kurgan for the reconstruction and technical re-equipment of the production of products for orthopedics and traumatology. The modernization of the site for the production of export-oriented medical products will take place from 2022 to 2024.[2] IN THE MAGADAN REGION
