As it became known in September 2022, Norilsk Nickel began using a robot to create 3D models of mines. The system was developed at the MISIS University of Science and Technology.

The university has created a robotic platform "Mark," which will become part of a project to robotize production in Norilsk Nickel. The platform is adapted for use in underground mining passages. Its dimensions are 120x120x80 cm. High cross-country ability is ensured by the fact that each wheel has its own engine and vertical axis of rotation for turning, as well as a system for changing the clearance from 20 cm to 45 cm. The robot can move at a speed of 4 km/h.

The robot can be used to conduct surveying surveys. To do this, you need to install a lidar sensor on it, which will scan the space to create a three-dimensional model.

Another area of ​ ​ application is monitoring the state of air in the mine after blasting and accidents without human presence. According to the developers, this will increase the efficiency of mining up to 7%.

By September 2022, MISIS students are working on a robot remote control system and firmware for the main controller. The tests are carried out at the Rocky mine of Norilsk Nickel.
