2022: Design of the exterior and interior of the Baltiets train

The National Center for Industrial Design and Innovation 2050.LAB on September 13, 2022 announced the creation of the exterior and interior design of the Baltiets train for the St. Petersburg metro. The project was developed by order of TMH, a manufacturer of railway and urban rail transport in Russia and the CIS. The first eight-car train was handed over for testing to the Administration of St. Petersburg and the leadership of the St. Petersburg metro.

It is assumed that the train will go into operation on the First line of the St. Petersburg metro. Therefore, the exterior and interior design is dominated by the red color, which is traditionally used to indicate it.

Until the beginning of November 2022, the train will be run-in in the metro without passengers and only then will go into operation. It is planned that in 2022 the metro will receive 8 trains.

The 2050 LAB team took the principle of minimalism as a basis, the design turned out to be modern and friendly. The project was created taking into account the scenarios of passenger behavior, their habits and needs, with great respect for the traditions of the metro of the Northern capital.

Train "Baltiets" - development of TMH. Its design uses many solutions that allow it to be considered one of the most modern in the world. The share of materials, assemblies and parts of domestic origin reaches 90% on the train.

The train body with a flat side and leaning and sliding doors 1400 mm wide. An asynchronous traction drive of domestic production is used, which allows electrodynamic braking to a complete stop and autonomous movement on storage batteries at a distance of up to 200 meters.

A remote control developed with the participation of the metro rolling stock service was used in the driver's cab. Cabins are equipped with compact evacuation ramps. Additional video surveillance cameras (video mirrors) are built into the rear view mirrors. On the frontal mask is the luminous logo of the St. Petersburg metro. The windshield is complemented by a protective film. The head LED headlights of an exclusive design are organically inscribed in the created mask.

Diode strips are installed on door portals, informing about their opening and closing with color indication. Liquid crystal blocks of above-door boards are mounted above the doors for the first time. Liquid crystal information boards are also installed on the ceilings in the salons.

The glazing area of the salons has been increased. Emergency communication units of the driver-passenger are supplemented with video cameras.

Passenger sofas with separate seats and backs are made of vinyl with an exclusive pater in the form of drawbridges. A special place has been organized for the accommodation and safe movement of people with limited mobility.

Passenger salons are equipped with forced ventilation, cleaning and disinfection systems.
