Volga State Technological University (Volgatech) protects data using the Cyber ​ ​ Backup solution. This was announced on September 13, 2022 by Cyberprotect.

The university has an extensive IT infrastructure on the basis of several dozen physical servers and. virtual machines They ensure the operation of information systems used in the educational process and management of the university. Earlier in Volgatech, foreign solutions were used to back up data. Each of the solutions was applied fragmentally, which did not allow creating a centralized backup system on their basis.

In addition, Volgatech was faced with the task of protecting the data of virtual machines, which are actively used by the university and occupy an increasingly important place in the information infrastructure every day. An additional reason for the transition to Cyber ​ ​ Backup was the need to introduce import-independent domestic solutions.

We sought to find a solution that could fully solve our problems in the field of backup and data protection, - said Roman Sofronov, head of the center for the development and operation of digital infrastructure of the FSBEI HE "PSTU." - We needed to protect virtual machines, organize a backup of the mail server with a depth of every mailbox, backup of the database.

The implementation of Cyber Backup was carried out in-house by university staff and took about a week. Roman Sofronov notes that the deployment of the system did not cause any difficulties - the solution has an intuitive interface, an ordinary system administrator can cope with its configuration.

As of September 2022, with the help of Cyber ​ ​ Backup, the university backs up data in most of the information infrastructure. Special computing power is allocated for solution placement and data storage, and the total amount of backups with a shelf life of up to two months reaches 20 TB.

Among the advantages of the solution in Volgatech are its versatility - confident work with all environments and information systems, as well as ease of management. Another quality of Cyber ​ ​ Backup is the ability to recover even individual elements of data, which allows you to recover in the shortest possible time, information lost as a result of user errors. Once, university specialists had to use Cyber ​ ​ Backup in "combat" conditions. One of the users accidentally deleted important files that were restored from the current backup within a couple of minutes.
