2022: Creating Glue for Wound Healing

In September 2022, it became known about the creation in Russia of a new medical glue that irritates the skin. We are talking about the development of specialists from the North-Eastern Federal University and the Institute of Mechanics of Metal Polymer Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

As scientists noted, medical adhesives are presented with high requirements - this is safety for the skin, non-toxicity, tightness, strength of attachment, acceleration of regeneration of skin tissues. To create such adhesive adhesives, a huge number of materials of different compositions with different ratios of components are used. Disadvantages of known materials are polymerization after application to the skin surface and its irritation during prolonged use of the adhesive. To eliminate them, various functional components are usually added to medical adhesives.

The developed adhesive is superior to others in terms of the duration of operation, the absence of skin irritation during long-term use of adhesives.

Polymer base of developed adhesive-adhesive of medical purpose consists of natural rubber and rubber-like elastic material - polyisobutylene. The adhesion properties and water absorption of the adhesive were regulated by scientists from SVFU and IMMS NAS of Belarus with tackiness agents and hydrocolloids. The introduction of barium ferrite into this composition gives the adhesive weak magnetic properties, affects biological systems and primarily affects physical and physicochemical processes in the body.

We also additionally introduced a multifunctional additive - dried lichen Hypogymnia physodes (L.) in the form of crushed particles. This gives the composition not only structuring and aseptic properties, but also a specific pleasant smell, does not cause an allergic reaction. The developed adhesive contains non-deficient components, the production technology is simple, low-energy, but surpasses others in terms of operation duration - up to two weeks, appearance and smell, - said Natalya Mestnikova, associate professor of the chemical department of the Institute of Natural Sciences of SVFU, one of the co-authors.

According to the developers of the technology, it can be used to fix and seal various medical devices on the patient's skin - components of blood intake systems, calo and urinoparticians, wound coatings[1] for[2]
