2022: Completion of preparation for the launch of automated quality control over high-precision plywood sawdust

At the Sveza plant in Verkhnyaya Sinyachikha, preparations are being completed for the launch of a new automated quality control project. The company announced this on October 6, 2022. Machine vision will monitor the high-precision sawdust of plywood. The solution was developed by the Laboratory of Measuring Systems (part of Severstal). Cooperation between the two companies is aimed at the consistent implementation of the import substitution strategy.

The Sveza plant in Verkhnyaya Sinyachikha (Sverdlovsk region) has been selected as a test site for launching an automatic control system in the plywood trimming area. This is a significant production stage at which it is important to prevent the appearance of a slope - non-compliance with the standard geometric dimensions.

Now the process will be controlled by a "smart" video camera that takes photos, and with the help of a specially written program determines deviations from the desired sizes and timely signals this to the operator. The error detection process becomes more accurate and stable.

Plywood trimming is one of the key areas in the production chain. The introduction of automated control will increase operational efficiency. I am especially glad that the development is completely domestic and does not depend on foreign components. The implementation of this control system at all three cutting machines of the plant will reduce the formation of defects, - commented Alexander Bykov, head of the technology and quality service.

These developments can be used not only on plywood trimming, but also on veneer. The use of machine vision to determine veneer sizes makes it possible to detect defects in the mating line and stop the tuning equipment in a timely manner, which leads to a decrease in scrap and, as a result, to a decrease in the consumption ratio of raw materials.
