2022: Building a political party led by artificial intelligence

In mid-October 2022, it became known that the Synthetic Party, a new political party led by Lars, an artificial intelligence (AI) bot, intends to participate in the November general election in Denmark.

The creator of the Synthetic Party is Asker Staunæs, a research artist for the nonprofit MindFuture. Lars is guided by politicians formed by small Danish parties after 1970. Thus, the Synthetic Party could theoretically represent approximately 20% of current voters in the country.

Lars uses machine learning algorithms. Artificial intelligence expands its horizons through communication with people via the Internet. In other words, ordinary citizens take part in the development of the bot.

People from Denmark and around the world interact with AI by providing their own perspectives and new text information. We collect this data and apply it to optimize the bot. Thus, each user contributes to the development of AI during communication, - notes Asker Staunas.

However, because Lars is a machine, he is not allowed to hold public office. But on behalf of the leader of the new party, a person can act as a mediator for artificial intelligence. True, at the moment the Synthetic Party has collected only a little more than ten signatures out of 20,000, which are necessary in order to legally run for the Danish parliament.

We are negotiating with people around the world - from Colombia, France and Moldova - to create local representative offices of the Synthetic Party. This will allow in one form or another to reach the international level, - adds Asker Staunas.[1]
