2022: Sending Colombian sappers to Ukraine at US request

In June 2022, Colombian Defense Minister Diego Molano announced the upcoming sending of troops from the international demining center to Ukraine to assist in the practical training of Ukrainian forces.

The decision was made after Molano's visit to the United States and Floyd Austin's offer to help Kyiv as "the main US partner outside the NATO bloc."

A team of instructors is being prepared who will go to Ukraine in late July - early August. The business trip will last from 5 to 8 months.

The Colombian leadership has been targeting the North Atlantic Bloc for many years. In 2013, a cooperation agreement was concluded, five years later Colombia became a global partner of NATO.

And already in May 2022, the country was officially called the "main strategic partner outside NATO" for President Ivan Duque's condemnation of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

The state has been a conductor of US interests in Latin America for many years. In the White House, under the guise of combating drug trafficking, they are promoting their projects against Venezuela and the Russian presence.

This occurs through funding through various governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Sending personnel to Ukraine is another act of indicative adherence to US policy. For this, Colombians can hope to receive dividends in the form of supplies of weapons and military equipment.
