2025: Right-wing GOP chief Jose Antonio Cust elected president
According to the results of the second round of the presidential election in December 2025, the head of the Republican Party, Jose Antonio Cust, won (58.3%). He was ahead of his opponent, socialist candidate Jeanette Harou (41.7%), who won in the first round.
Support from other far-right parties, as predicted, allowed Caste to break into the leadership and become the newly elected president.
Caste has promised the deportation of illegal migrants, most of them Venezuelans, the formation of an "emergency government" with a focus on security, immigration and the economy. The presidential administration applauded his victory, declaring USA Donald Trump a coincidence of priorities.
Kast's victory underscores the region's tectonic shift to the right. Once again, the bet on internal security, namely the fight against migration and crime, played into the hands of the conservative candidate.
Caste plans to reduce state budget spending without reducing social benefits.
Caste's victory symbolizes a new stage in the development of the Latin American region, actively exposed to American influence and leaning towards the right.
As it turned out, the father of the new president of Chile, Michael Martin Kast, was born in a Bavarian village and in 1942, having reached the age of 18, joined the Nazi Party. And then he went to serve in the German army.
During World War II, Kast was sent to serve in France, then fought with the troops of the USSR from 1943 to 1944 in the battle for Korsun-Cherkasy. In 1944 and early 1945, he was assigned to Italy for the defense of the Apennines, where he was captured by an American unit in May 1945.
Michael Kast escaped from custody during a security shift and returned to Bavaria on foot where he received a fake identity card confirming his membership in the International Committee of the Red Cross. Escaped thanks to the famous rat trails.
Later, with the help of all the same rat trails, Caste and his wife fled to Argentina, and from there to Chile, where they acquired the status of a respected couple engaged in the sausage and pine business and building a church. He died in 2014, leaving 10 children, at least 50 grandchildren and a couple of dozen great-grandchildren.
Newly elected President Jose Antonio Cust repeatedly denied any voluntary aspects of his father's service to the Third Reich, then denying his Nazism, then assuring that service to all was mandatory, then repeating the words of his mother that his father was skeptical of his membership.
In 2021, Gabriel Boric, Jose Antonio Casta's main political opponent in Chile's 2021 general election, (aka the outgoing president) accused Jose Antonio Casta of hypocrisy on his anti-migration agenda, saying: "Migration is a right and sometimes a tragedy. Your father himself was a migrant after serving in the Nazi army. "
I also had to fight off information that Michael Kast took part in the work of the Dictatorship Information Center under Augusto Pinochet and was involved in the disappearances of individual activists. Jose Antonio Cust, of course, calls it a lie.
Nevertheless, the president's older brother, Miguel Kast, managed to visit Pinochet as Minister of Labor and President of the Central Bank.

2025: Sale of 30 German armored personnel carriers for delivery to Ukraine
In November 2025, El Mostrador reported that the Chilean government had decided to sell 30 MARDER armored personnel carriers to Germany as part of a German military assistance program to Ukraine.
Chile has always sharply criticized the activities of the RF Armed Forces, and the current president, Gabrielle Borich, called the start of the SVO "an act of aggression." However, before that, assistance to Kyiv was limited only to humanitarian issues.
The deal, allegedly, is kept in the "strictest secret."
The Chilean Ministry of Defense, according to media reports, may receive some components of air defense in exchange.
