2023
The results of the elections to the Polish parliament in October 2023 were quite expected: none of the main forces (PiS and KO) received the required number of votes to form a majority in parliament.
If you look at how the voivodships in Poland voted, it is quite easy to note a clear division. Former German possessions in the West actively supported the opposition, whose leader Donald Tusk was so persistently accused of having ties with Germany. At the same time, Eastern Poland in the majority advocated conservative Law and Justice (PiS).
In general, the news is not very good for PiS: in the previous parliamentary elections of 2019, the party won in most regions.
During the elections, Poles elected 460 deputies to the lower (Sejm) and 100 senators to the upper (Senate) chamber of parliament for the next four years.

Series of powerful cyber attacks hit Poland's parliament
On October 27, 2022, it became known that the parliaments Slovakia Poland were subjected to targeted hacker attacks. As a result of cyber attacks, the operation of certain governmental IT systems was paralyzed.
As stated in the Polish Senate, the attacks were carried out from several directions, including from the territory of the Russian Federation. Polish politician Tomasz Grodzki also stressed that the cyber incident may be related to a Senate decision that declares the Russian government a "terrorist regime."
Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Gabor Grendel said that as a result of the attack, the entire computer network of the parliament was paralyzed. It is known that the intervention of hackers disabled not only computer channels, but also telephone lines, and therefore the vote of lawmakers on several bills had to be postponed.
We were about to vote when the head of our administrative department informed us of a cyber attack on the parliament's IT system. Therefore, the meeting of parliament was interrupted, - said Mr. Grendel. |
At the same time, the speaker of the Slovak parliament, Boris Kollar, said that the source of the attack has not yet been reliably established. Therefore, it is premature to talk about the involvement of the Russian side in the incidents.
The security situation in cyberspace continues to deteriorate. Reports of cyber attacks, theft of personal data and file encryption come from all over the world. Over the past months, large companies, government structures and various organizations in Australia, France, Germany, Colombia, India and other countries have been hacked. Many experts attribute this to the current geopolitical situation.[1]
