The library named after Empress Maria Fedorovna is the old university library of Russia. As of November 2022, the library fund has about 3 million copies of books in all branches of knowledge. Of particular value are the books of a rare foundation, some of which are book monuments. Some of the book monuments are presented only in the university library.

On the domestic planetary scanner ElarScan S2-800 in contactless mode will be digitized (as saved copies or fragments) printed editions of different years and various states - from modern to those who have survived a large history of pages several centuries old. Among the most valuable publications stored in the fundamental library of the RSPU, for example, the works of the theologian and philosopher Augustine Aurelius, published in 1532 in Paris (Augustino A. Index omnium, quae insigniter a d. Aurelio Augustino dicta sunt, nunc recens supra Germanicam aeditionem quatuor tomorum materijs locupletatus: Additi sunt praeterea indices duo, authoritatum sacrae scripturae explanatarum unus, alter librorum omnium eiusde, ordinealphabetico, accurate digesti / Augustino Aurelio). Also, digital copies will be created for the books "An ironic song about the campaign against the Polovtsy of the specific prince Novagorod-Seversky Igor Svyatoslavich: Written in ancient Russian at the end of the XII century with translation into the dialect used now (Moscow, 1800), "Under the holy sky: Publication of Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Elisaveta Feodorovna "(Sergiev Posad, 1914) and the History of the Pugachev Riot, written by Pushkin and published in St. Petersburg in 1834.
