2022: Prototyping

Researchers at the IT faculty of Moscow Polytechnic University have created a prototype robot that can communicate using gestures. The university announced this on November 10, 2022. Also, the university developed a rigid-mimic interface for human interaction with the machine, which made it possible to contactless use of household appliances, gadgets and industrial manipulators.

At this stage of development, the robot is endowed with two "hands" with movable phalanx fingers. Such abilities allow the robot to depict letters, words, express emotions. In other words, the machine can communicate with a large set of gestures. The program of hand movement is based on Russian sign language.

Future human assistant machines will most likely look like some anthropomorphic creatures, "said Yuri Filippovich, professor at the Department of Infocognitive Technologies of the IT Faculty of the Moscow Polytechnic. - It is customary to use the word "robots," but I think that it is not entirely suitable for such machines. However, the main question is another - who and how will create these creatures, what the new industry will become - this is the essence of the developments that we are carrying out.

According to Yuri Filippovich, the former scientific and technical structure was closely connected with the car, which became the flagship of the development of industry of the 20th century. The new horizon of the industrial revolution will be based on the production of anthropomorphic machines, the feature of which will be not only "human appearance," but also endowing with linguistic consciousness - the ability to "think" using natural language.

Work on the study and modeling of language consciousness is carried out within the framework of the master's program "Computer linguistics and artificial intelligence." The program is based on the ideas of scientists of the leading scientific school of Russia "Russian Language Personality." The purpose of the ongoing research and development is to create a new infocognitive technology and a system of human-machine interaction - Cognizer.

Together with scientists and experts, undergraduates conduct various psycholinguistic experiments, the result of which should be an intelligent system that allows building fundamentally new communication technologies in the IT field.
