2022: Community Launch

Russia launched OpenScaler, a community of developers of a freely distributed domestic open source operating system. The company Skala^r announced this on November 16, 2022.

The community aims to create an enterprise-level operating system that meets both the requirements of large Russian companies and government agencies and the requirements for products of this class in the world.

Great attention will be paid to the development of the ecosystem, in particular, working with domestic software and hardware manufacturers, leading academic and scientific institutions and professional communities.

OpenScaler is founded by an independent team of developers and experts in the field of enterprise-level operating systems based on free software. A key community product will be the non-profit openScaler OS distribution.

openScaler OS is a modified version of the openEuler distribution, a Chinese open-source project managed by the OpenAtom Foundation in China, a non-profit organization similar to the Linux Foundation and Apache Software Foundation. The openEuler community is the largest OS developer community in China and includes more than 700,000 users, more than 12,000 committers and supports more than 9,000 repositories. More than 10 commercial distributions have already been created on the basis of openEuler, which are being implemented in the largest companies in China, including China Construction Bank, China Post, China Mobile and many others.

OpenScaler OS will be based on the GNU/distribution Linux, which is a representative of the "classic" distribution family Red Hat/. CentOS The Russian version inherited from openEuler full compatibility with Western enterprise-level solutions, as well as many technological innovations from the Chinese project. The creation of the community was supported by Skala^r, which has many years of experience in developing hardware and software systems for high-load high-availability systems based on open source software.

We have been studying the openEuler ecosystem for a long time. The most interesting solutions for us are solutions that allow us to bring the operation of complexes to a fundamentally new level through dynamic optimization and adaptive identification of deviations. Such ideas have already been implemented in the Skala^r management system, we plan its further active development and welcome the launch of the Russian community OpenScaler, a representative of Skala^r commented on this event.

According to community representatives, a domestic distribution of this class will become an important part of the import substitution program of the import-critical information infrastructure in Russia, will make a significant contribution to strengthening state technological sovereignty and will create commercial products that will be in demand both in Russia and abroad.
