Unmap (navigation inside buildings)

2022: An application for navigation inside buildings has been developed in Russia

In November 2022, it became known about the development in Russia of the Unmap mobile application, which is intended for navigation inside large buildings.

This development of students from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Tver, who were among the winners of the Student Startup competition and won 1 million rubles. The development is already used by St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, and the project partner is the REU named after G.V. Plekhanov in Moscow.

Unmap application developed in Russia

The Unmap application allows you to create an annotation for any object on the map, add a description, phones and a lot of other information that will be structured, interactive and available to users in different languages. You can recommend events to users - for example, lectures or concerts. A temporary event can be marked and provided with a small description in the annotation. The event label will appear on the map, and when searching, in the recommendations section, the user will see information about all events and the places where they are held. The next step of the authors will be inclusion: the service will make it easier to find a route for people who need elevators, ramps or office space.

According to one of the members of the project team Matvey Chigirin, a user or organizer can not only pave the route to the desired place, but also share it by creating a branded QR code or URL link that can be posted online or offline. For example, in your personal account, or put on a banner.

The Unmap application is designed for university campuses with a large number of audiences, but can also be used for other closed spaces, the developers said.

In 2022, Google updated its Maps service with an indoor navigation feature. It is implemented using artificial intelligence, augmented reality and the Street View service.[1]
