2022: Laboratory Discovery

At the end of November 2022, Samara State Medical University (SamGMU) opened the smart clothing laboratory of the NTI Center "Bionic Engineering in Medicine." It is located in the Preobrazhenka industrial park on the site of the SamGMU serial production center.

According to the press service of the university, the laboratory will develop "smart clothing," which registers a person's biometric indicators during fitness, training or rehabilitation exercises. Clothes record indicators of muscle activity, so that you can assess the effectiveness of the exercises performed and adjust the technique. Smart clothing, according to the developers, is not constrained by movement, so it can be used during training. Despite the fact that special sensors are sewn into the clothes, they can be washed.

The laboratory is also developing other rehabilitation devices. One of them is a "smart orthosis" - a device for restoring the knee. During exercise, the orthosis also removes biometric indicators of muscle activity. Based on these indicators, a person will be able to improve the effectiveness of the rehabilitation exercises performed.

Data from smart clothes and smart orthosis can be transmitted to a smartphone, computer and other devices.

In our laboratory, we have gathered specialists from various modern areas: from physics and mathematics to those who solve technological problems, "says Victor Kazantsev, head of the" smart clothing "laboratory at the NTI Center. - It is also important that in addition to the developments that we are engaged in, there will be prototyping and small-scale production. It will allow solving not just scientific problems, but also entering the real high-tech market.[1]
