2022: Making a Robot

At the end of December 2022, the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNIPU) presented a robotic system for creating perforation on the surface of composite materials used in the aviation and space industries. The introduction of the development will speed up the production of sound-absorbing aircraft parts, the university said.

They noted that mechanical methods for processing composite sound-absorbing materials require significant time and expense. Automation of the process of applying perforation to such structures could speed up production and reduce its cost, the authors of the work believe. They developed a robotic system that creates holes in parts using electrical pulses.

Created in PNIPU robot for perforation

Platform combines movable module for electric erosion treatment of material and six-coordinate system of levers. With their help, high mobility of the electrode-tool is ensured. It can rotate around its axis, and its fixing levers are capable of providing a motion amplitude of 340 degrees. The results of the experiments confirmed the effectiveness of the robot to obtain holes in the blanks from polymer composites.

There is a need to develop equipment for efficient and controlled electric erosion processing of promising functional materials of the new generation, including polymer ones. Solving this problem would increase the accuracy of manufacturing parts, while reducing production costs, and expand the possibilities of electric erosion processing, "explained Timur Ablyaz, project leader, leading researcher at the Center for Additive Technologies, associate professor, associate professor of the Department of Innovative Engineering Technologies, candidate of technical sciences.[1]
