2023: Announcement of DSS on 48-nuclear Baikal

On January 13, 2023, it became known that the Russian the company "" Elpiteh released the first server storage system (DSS) on the last of those included in the series in the Baikal line. processor Baikal-S

ET113-MB board

The Baikal Electronics company, which develops the Baikal line processors, confirmed the release of these DSS and reported that, apparently, it remains the only finished product of this class on Baikal-S.

As reported, the Elpitech company in early January 2022 was heard due to the fact that it was bought by the Salyutdevais company, which was previously called Sberbank and was part of the Sberbank group.

Elpitech could not comment on the prospects for the replication and promotion of these DSS in the market.

Baikal-S DSS are designed according to a 16-nanometer process technology, have 48 ARM Cortex-A75 cores (12 clusters of four cores), six DDR4 3200 MHz memory channels - up to 768 GB per socket (128 GB per channel), cache: L1 - 64 KB instruction cache and data cache, L2 - 512 KB per core, L3 - 2 MB per cluster, L4: 32 MB.

The chip interconnect includes three CCIX x16 interfaces; each band operates at 16 Gbps. The set of I/O interfaces consists of 80 PCIe Gen 4.0 lines (48 lines common to the CCIX interface), two 1 Gb Ethernet RGMII lines and one USB 2.0 ULPI.

The processor clock speed is up to 2.5 GHz, power consumption - 120 W, operating temperature range - from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius, performance on the standard Linpack supercomputer test is declared at 358 Gflops.

The first large batch of Baikal-S came to Russia from the TSMC contract factory back in October 2021.

These DSS of system uses Elpitech's own motherboard - ET113-MB. It is made in the E-ATX form factor. RAM includes up to 12 DDR4 3200 strips (including those with ECC); up to 768GB. It has expansion slots: two M.2 keyM (PCIe 4.0 x 4) onlyNVME, one M.2 keyA-E, two PCIeGen 4 x16, three PCIeGen 4 x8, two PCIeGen 4 x4.

The disk subsystem includes eight 3.5 "/ SASSATA2 drives, as well as a RAIDLSI 9440-8iSGL controller, RAID 0/1/10/5/50.

The chassis system has dimensions of 660x437x89 mm, has PWR LED, HDD LED, NIC1 LED, NIC2 LED, Fan Fail LED, Power fail LED, UID LED indicators. On the front panel there are PWR, Reset, UID buttons, as well as two USB 2.0 connectors. The back panel has four USB 2.0 connectors, two USB 3.0, two RJ45 1000BASE-T, one each RJ45 100BASE-T (BMC), Audioin (mic), Audioin (Linein), Audioout.

Power consumption - 650 W. The manufacturer is ready to give a guarantee for the product for a period of one year[1]
