2022: The number of business trips in Russia for 3 years decreased by 28%

The number of business trips in Russia in 2022 decreased by 28% compared to 2019. This was announced at the end of January 2023 in the agency of business tourism "Aeroclub."

According to the study, the geography of business trips has changed. In 2019, Moscow and St. Petersburg accounted for 43% of all flights of business travelers. In 2022, the share of two capitals that lead the top 10 popular Russian cities among business tourists decreased to 35%. Compared to 2021, the number of business trips to Moscow decreased by 7%, and to St. Petersburg - remained at the same level. At the same time, regional business tourism centers in 2022 showed an increase in demand. The ten most popular cities for business trips included: Irkutsk (+ 14% by 2021), Krasnoyarsk (+ 20%), Kazan (+ 58%), Yekaterinburg (-11%), Sochi (-10%), Novosibirsk (-3%), Samara (+ 1 %), Ufa (+ 26%).

Business tourists began to fly to the regions more often

The share of business class in the total volume of flights of business travelers remained at the level of previous years and amounted to 3%. At the same time, on average, business class air tickets in 2022 rose in price by 10%, and economy class - by 12%. Compared to the "pre-pandemic" (COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic) in 2019, price increases were 41% and 28%, respectively. The average price of a flight in economy class in 2022 was 10,800 rubles, and the business class cost business travelers 55 thousand rubles.

The most expensive destinations in 2022 were Vladivostok (24 thousand rubles in economy, 159 thousand rubles for a one-way flight in business class), Magadan (24 thousand rubles in economy, 93 thousand rubles in business) and Blagoveshchensk (20 thousand rubles in economy, 97 thousand rubles in business). Most of all, the cost of air tickets has changed on flights to Sochi - in economy class it increased by 59% and amounted to 13,600 rubles per ticket one way, the business class has risen in price by 42% - to 78 thousand rubles. Experts attribute this to the increased duration of the flight and growing demand due to the closure of southern airports.^[1]
