2023: Device Creation

Specialists of Penza State University (PSU) have developed a multi-layer drainage tube with replaceable parts, which allows you to speed up wound healing and reduce hospital stay. The Ministry of Education and Science spoke about this development on February 6, 2023.

The drainage structure consists of an outer tube accommodating an inner tube comprising a container of microporous capron tissue with sorbent powder inside, for example, activated carbon. This part of the device can be changed many times.

Each tube has staggered drainage holes through which fluid is removed from the purulent cavity. In the wall of the inner tube there is a through channel through which the wound is washed with ozonized antiseptic solution. The device itself is fixed on the patient's skin with a ligature (thread).

As Oleg Zenin, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Human Anatomy, PSU, explained, the sorbent adsorbs the liquid compartment. There is an outflow of contents through the drainage holes. The inner tube and the cylinder with sorbent can be removed and replaced to prevent plugging of the drain tube.

Installing our device to the patient after surgery will allow drainage of purulent cavities quickly and efficiently. The patient will not feel discomfort, the factor of excessive wound damage and the need for repeated surgery will be excluded. In addition, the device allows endocavitoscopy. The removal of fluid from the purulent cavity takes place under the visual control of the doctor, - he said.

By February 6, 2023, the device for draining purulent cavities underwent a clinical medical study. The time spent in hospital after surgery in patients decreased by an average of 3-5 days.[1]
