2023: Creation of a "metaverse economic zone"

At the end of February 2023, the largest Japanese companies representing the technology and financial sectors signed an agreement on the joint development of the "metaverse economic zone." The project was named Ryugukoku.

The initiative involves Fujitsu, JCB, Mizuho, Sumitomo Mitsui, Mitsubishi UFJ, Resona, Sompo Japan Insurance, Toppan and TBT Lab. This agreement is based on the concept of "updating Japan through the power of games by Hajime Tabata, world famous game creator, founder of JP Games and Web 3.0 adviser to the Japanese Government Digital Agency," Fujitsu press service said.

Japanese companies team up to create 'metaverse economic zone'

The joint project assumes that each company will be responsible for its own area. These areas of responsibility were determined in advance in early 2023. For example, Mitsubishi will concentrate on the financial part of the metaverse, and Sumitomo Mitsui is responsible for gamifying life.

In the Japanese metaverse, according to representatives of Fujitsu, they promise the Ryugukoku ecosystem, which will be a stage in the construction of metaverse. We are talking about elements of an online role-playing game with an alternative world. The platform is based on its own fantasy worldview. The content presented inside Ryugukoku takes the form of a moving "city," "castle" or "vehicle" that moves around the virtual world. Users will be able to take part in the role-playing game, traveling in various areas and faced with a variety of content and services.

According to Fujitsu, in the future, the developers of this infrastructure intend to provide access to the economic metaverse to companies and government agencies both in Japan and abroad. Realize the development of entire industries by leveraging a wide range of industrial knowledge and digital transformation functions to bring industries, companies and communities together and solve social problems by merging real and digital technologies.[1]
