JELD-WEN (PSItms)

The JELD-WEN group is the producer of wooden doors, largest in Europe. It makes high-quality doors and the accompanying products such as doorframes, profiles and a covering of the most different samples according to relevant market sentiments at 14 plants in seven countries of the world, two of which are located in Germany. Deliveries are performed to more than 20 countries of the world, as a rule, directly, via five operating logistic terminals and the equipped transit warehouses under control of JELD-WEN.

Task

Proceeding from toughening of requirements to the available logistics system and gain of competitive pressure, JELD-WEN Door Solutions is going to integrate the existing IT applications for planning and management of transportations of clients within an end-to-end system of control of transport (TMS). It is necessary, first of all, for prevention of a surplus of data array at storage and registration, and providing a continuous flow of information at display of process of transportation of goods.

Implementing TMS, the JELD-WEN company pursues the following aims:

• Decrease in transportation costs by minimization of empty runs and the combined transportation
• Increase in number of deliveries
• Planning of new terminals taking into account cross docking by means of modeling

For implementation of this project the IT system which supports basic processes of control of transport should be created. Treat them:

• Booking of clients from AS/400 system
• Formation of transport instructions by formation of a shipping batch
• Automatic planning of routes and manual distribution
• Possibility of intervention of the operator during a route
• Determination of transportation costs for billing to service provider.
  

Solution

The PSI company developed the IT concept which implements the described requirements using a management system for transport. This concept is based on the powerful industry platform which represents a flexible basis for implementation of a management system for traffic flows of JELD-WEN.

A system has the following modules:

• Information management
• Order management
• Control of transport
• Implementation of transportations
• Calculations for transport services

The management system for orders supports obtaining customer orders from AS/400 system. By formation of a shipping batch transport instructions are automatically generated. According to the set criteria the orders which are not intended for forwarding are filtered (for example, orders of courier service TNT). In the PSItms system transport instructions form along optimal routes taking into account the set rules and restrictions. On the basis of automatic planning of routes the operator can perform optimization of routes in an interactive mode. After the statement of routes they can be subjected to control, and after completion of run calculation with carrier can be made.
