2024: Sales of digital cameras amounted to 350 thousand units worth ₽6,1 billion

On April 16, 2025, M.Video-Eldorado published an analytical report on the results of the digital camera market in Russia for 2024. According to the study, sales reached ₽6,1 billion with a total of 350 thousand units sold. The average cost of purchased cameras increased by 33% and amounted to ₽17,3 thousand.

According to the press service of M.Video, the main reason for such a significant increase in the average price was the increase in demand for models of the premium segment, including professional DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Analysts note that the Russian photographic technology market demonstrates a shift in consumer preferences towards more high-tech and functional devices.

If we consider the distribution of the market in monetary terms, then the picture changes significantly. Here, Canon holds the leading position with a share of 43% of total sales. This high figure is due to the active demand for premium models of the brand, intended for both professionals and advanced amateurs.

The second place in terms of revenue takes with Sony a share of 23%. The company has strengthened its position thanks to the demand for high-tech mirrorless cameras, which are distinguished by a high-quality matrix, fast autofocus and powerful video capabilities.

The third line in monetary terms is occupied by Nikon with a share of 12%. The brand maintains stable demand thanks to reliable professional solutions and the latest models in the premium segment.

The fourth place in terms of revenue was taken by little-known brands with a share of 7%. Despite the dominance in quantitative terms, their share in monetary terms is significantly lower due to the low cost of devices.

Closes the top five in monetary terms brand Fujifilm with a share of 6%. Cameras from this manufacturer are especially popular among buyers who appreciate stylish design, high image quality and advanced shooting features, especially in the mirrorless camera segment.

2022: Sales of cameras with snapshot printing in Russia decreased by a third to 97.7 thousand units

Sales of cameras with snapshot printing (such devices are produced, for example, by Fujifilm, Kodak, Polaroid) in Russia in 2022 decreased by a third (by 32%) compared to 2021 and amounted to 97.7 thousand units. In money, the volume of this market decreased by 14% - from 685 million to 590 million rubles. This was announced in early April 2023 by the marking operator "Honest Sign" of the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT).

A Vedomosti source in one of the Internet electronics retailers confirmed the drop in sales of such cameras in 2022 compared to 2021, naming similar numbers. According to him, less than 100 thousand such cameras were sold per year. According to another interlocutor of the publication, close to a large retailer, deliveries to Russia last year for the first time in five years fell below 100 thousand units.

During the year, less than 100 thousand such cameras were sold

According to the statistics of the CRPT for 2022, Fujifilm instant print cameras are the most popular among Russians, which accounted for 91.4% of total sales. This is followed by Kodak with a 4.5% share, Lomography with 1.4%, Polaroid with 0.27% and Canon with 0.18%. Most instant printing cameras in 2022 were sold in the Primorsky Territory, where 10.8 units of products accounted for a thousand people. The smallest demand for such devices was recorded in the Kaliningrad region, the Komi Republic and the Ryazan region.

The fall in demand is also explained by the pressure of smartphones on the photographic equipment market. Today, the quality of photographs of some smartphones can compete with professional equipment, not to mention instant cameras, "said Revaz Yusupov, deputy general director of the CRPT, whose words are also quoted in the center's message.[1]
