The Kölln company is a supplier of delicacies from whole grain (oats) for fans of a high-quality and healthy power supply – adults and children. And so – for 180 years.
From the very beginning the history of the company is connected with family of Kölln which directs this business already in the sixth generation. History of dry breakfasts ascends by 1820. Oat products from whole Kölln grain are on sale across the whole Europe and even over the ocean. However today the gamma of products consists already not only of oat flakes, the range includes baby food, a power supply for pets, muesli and snacks for intermediate meals. For shipment of finished goods the Kölln company uses on the platform Elmskhorn three manufacturing enterprises with warehouse economy. Within investments into the 4th enterprise and expansions of production the existing management system for stocks had to be replaced with the modern software.
The Peter Kölln enterprise works in two changes with one day off. This day off was used for connection of a new warehouse management system after complex preliminary configuring, including connection to the warehouse equipment for processing of loads and testing as long test phases with idle time of work of a warehouse were inadmissible.
Requirements and implementation
The high-rack warehouse of the Kölln enterprise contains 5512 warehouse places in eight rows on twelve levels everyone. Access is provided by four rail cranes pilers. In addition to finished goods, also pallets with raw materials and packing materials are stored here and also barcoding is executed by the EAN 128 system. In total from 250 to 300 different names from which only 116 different finished products belong to production Peter Kölln are stored in a warehouse. Inventory turnover occurs within about 14 days. Loads with quick turnover are stored here during one day. Production and loading unloading of goods takes place in three changes.
Labels of transport units are read out by the laser scanner which is built in the loader. A system distributes storage locations not spontaneously as it was earlier, and sends a specific transport dress to warehousing to controllers of loaders.
All load stored after a production site is blocked on the 24th quarantine. A system is supplied with function of automatic control of issue of goods after the end of a quarantine. From this point the product is ready for shipment according to customer orders.
Every day on storage the 500th pallet of finished goods, raw materials and packing materials are placed near. About the same the pallet comes through a preparation zone to a zone of shipment of goods. When processing orders complete and combined pallets when in one transport unit different articles gather differ.
Feature of a warehouse management system is that orders are completed in advance. The ready processed transport units temporarily are stored on racks until shipment to the client. It means that the completed orders are not transferred automatically to section of shipment of goods, and are processed separately. The preliminary complete set has the advantage allowing to avoid peak loads.
Configuration
The warehouse management system is implemented on the UNIX server. Data management is organized through ANSI the SQL-Oracle database. Other computers with the Windows NT operating system are connected through Ethernet. The server is protected from interruptions in power supply by uninterruptible power supply units. The interface of connection to a higher central system is performed through Ethernet/TCP/IP.
