CEVA - PIRELLI (PSIwms)

''CEVA Logistics is the second world's largest logistics provider. In the center of activity of CEVA Logistics company - a comprehensive range of logistics services - from consulting, design and developments before implementation and commissioning of complete solutions for logistics chains.

In Odenvald CEVA operates for various clients the production and distributive warehouses located in different places for motorcycle and car tires. Only for Pirelli company warehouses are located in two places: cities of Otsberg and Broyberg. And the warehouse in Broyberg at the same time is a production site of 40000 square meters.

Problem definition

PSI Logistics received the purchase order of own warehouse management system PSIwms on all terminals and for several clients, including Metzeler, Pirelli, Vredestein and Trelleborg. CEVA and PSI Logistics companies are integrated by strategic partnership which, in addition to the high performance of the PSIwms system, was crucial for order to it of the project on several clients and platforms. At the first stage - in 2003 the PSIwms system was put into operation on an object Eppertskhauzen and intended for implementation of logistic business processes of a brand of the motorcycle buses Metzeler. In October, 2003 the PSIwms system equipped also Otsberg branch. In this case the distributor warehouse from which, the industry of trade in buses is generally provided with spare parts represents the main warehouse terminal. The warehouse of Metzeler company in Eppertskhauzena was translated at the end of 2004 at continued production in Otsberg and integrated into the existing system. The Metzeler company belonging to the Pirelli group in terms of a system configuration is considered as the external mandator.

In Broyberg CEVA manages logistics of production of buses of brands of Pirelli, Vredestein and Trelleborg and the related warehouse of products, ready to shipment. Just made buses go directly from make-to-stock production.

The specific functions implemented thanks to the PSI wms system

• Complete set of orders along routes according to criteria of sending (the country, the zip code, an order type) and distribution of goods on 45 gate
• Three strategy of a piking: direct / export for large orders, a fast piking (even small batches are transported as separate a pallet) and also a two-stage piking of motorcycle buses
• Floor places storage with a different and variable capacity
• Management of transportations with an indistinct algorithm, dynamic assessment of open transportations with parameters: location, remoteness, waiting time, main priority
• Complex system of management of product flows about one -/multi-stage transportations through railway stations depending on type of the loader and admissible competence

Configuration

PSIwms is operated in a data processing center of CEVA Logistics company on the IBM AIX platform (RS 6000) with a database system of Oracle. The system of wireless data transmission was delivered by Psion Teklogix company.
