2023: Product Announcement

Seattle-based startup Autev unveiled new battery charging technology for electrified cars in early May 2023. Instead of using stationary stations and deploying the corresponding sites, the company proposes to use charging robots that are able to independently drive up to a parked electric car.

The Autev bot is actually a large battery pack mounted on a four-wheel robotic platform. Such a robot can rest in a remote area of the garage or parking lot until the owner of the electric car calls it through the application to the specified point. Moreover, the car can be located in any parking space, and not only on the one that is intended specifically for electrified vehicles.

After receiving the order, the Autev robot independently gets to the client using on-board navigation. Next, the motorist needs to connect the bot cable to the charging connector of his electric car - then you can do your own thing. After replenishing the energy reserve of the car's batteries, it is enough to disconnect the cable, and the bot will go to another client. The process can be completed ahead of schedule through a mobile application or by disconnecting the charging cable.

It is noted that Autev is capable of charging up to six electric cars from its batteries. After that, the robot itself needs an electrical connection: fast charging technology is supported. Parking area operators will be able to earn money by charging motorists and advertising on the bot building. Commercial deliveries of Autev are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2024. The proposed approach will reduce the cost of developing the traditional infrastructure of stationary charging stations.[1]
