Development of the manufacturing technology of the leaking thermoregulator housing

On June 7, 2023 Rostec , he announced the development of a technology for the manufacture of a leaky thermal regulator case for Russian Condor-FKA radar satellite sensing Lands. This made it possible to quadruple the life of the product compared to sealed spacecraft - from 3-5 to 10-12 years.

The sealed hull of spacecraft eventually collapses from collisions with space debris and other factors. As a result, the temperature regime of the equipment is violated, and the satellite fails. The Condor-FKA housing, manufactured by ONPP Technologiya, protects the equipment from environmental influences and maintains the temperature required for its operation in leaky conditions.

As of June 2023, there are more than 70 satellites in orbit that use Rostec products, and Condor-FKA is one of them. The body of the device is not sealed, which made it possible to increase the resource from 3-5 to 10-12 years and create it in record time - in less than three months. In addition, thanks to this technology, the weight of the satellite was significantly reduced, and its internal volumes were increased by 15%, "said Andrei Silkin, General Director of ONPP Technologiya.

Also, specialists from ONPP Technologiya created a rod for Condor-FKA, which is used in its antenna-turning device. It does not twist or change length when temperatures drop. In addition, the company has manufactured a stabilizer for the antenna of a spacecraft, which operates on the principle of a top and provides accurate positioning of transmitting and receiving devices in zero gravity conditions.

Satellite launch

On May 27, 2023, the first Russian radar satellite of the Condor-FKA series was successfully launched into orbit. He was delivered there by the Soyuz-2.1a rocket with the Fregat upper stage. The Condor is capable of shooting the surface of the Earth in any weather and at any time of the day thanks to a synthetic aperture radar.

The Condor-FKA satellite will be able to conduct all-weather and round-the-clock monitoring of the Earth, including the Arctic region. Its tasks will include mapping the surface of the planet, environmental monitoring and exploration of natural resources. The device will be able to receive detailed images with a resolution of up to one meter in any weather and at any time of the day and examine the earth's surface in a strip of up to 120 km in viewing mode.

Russia successfully launched the first satellite of the Condor-FKA series

This is a breakthrough for our country, because this device belongs to the class of small spacecraft, that is, it has a mass of less than one and a half tons, and at the same time it has very high characteristics, "Igor Afanasyev, a space expert, scientific editor of Roscosmos Media, told TASS.

As reported on the Roskosmos website "," the space system "Condor-FKA" is designed to obtain high-resolution and medium-resolution radar information in order to solve the problems of the socio-economic development of the Russian Federation.

Alexey Rabochy, chief designer in the field - Director of the Joint Directorate of Space Systems of the Scientific and Production Association (NPO) of Mechanical Engineering, says that the first Russian satellite for radar observation of the Earth "Condor-FKA" in almost ten years has the ability to conduct interferometric shooting. We are talking about obtaining images of the same territory under close observation conditions.

In addition, a number of technical measures were implemented to improve such characteristics as the accuracy of binding radar images (can reach up to 10 meters) and the daily performance of up to 100 personnel in detailed searchlight mode, the specialist noted.[1]
