In early June 2023, it became known that Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) they were using a cross-platform proprietary instant messaging system to control troops. Discord This messenger with support and, VoIP videoconferences available for all common ones, is operating systems especially popular with gamers from all over the world.

Reportedly, the Discord platform was used, in particular, to provide communication during the exercises of the 26th division of river boats and the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The messenger is also used by Ukrainian command posts during combat operations. According to some reports, together with Discord, Ukrainian servicemen use special software to protect servers from hacking and possible hacker attacks. Such Discord-compatible tools are responsible for ensuring the privacy and security of users who have access to the military server.

APU uses Discord to control troops

Earlier there was information that secret military documents related to the current geopolitical situation got on the Internet through the unofficial Minecraft Discord server. It was said that the materials dated early March 2023 contain a description of the state of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as information about the plans of the United States and NATO to strengthen the Ukrainian army.

The leaked files, among other things, contained maps of Bakhmut, Kharkov and Kherson, as well as documents on military equipment. In addition, some information about the plans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and data on the speed of consumption of shells to, HIMARS (American multiple launch rocket system on a wheeled chassis) which were not previously disclosed, got into open access. Later it was also reported that Discord users began to spread fakes, passing them off as top secret data. Pentagon[1]
