2023: Launch of stores specializing in premium Russian wines

On July 14, 2023, it became known that Simple Group, one of the main wine importers in Russia, opened stores specializing in premium Russian wines.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, the first outlet of the new format began to receive visitors in Krasnodar. Approximately 70% of the presented assortment are domestic wines. These are, in particular, "Galitsky & Galitsky," "Valley of Lefkadia," Loco Cimbali and others. The cost varies from 790 rubles to 5.59 thousand rubles per bottle. The remaining 30% is occupied by foreign wines, strong alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic products.

Simple Group opened stores specializing in premium Russian wines

Simple Wine Group's SimpleWine network includes more than 70 locations in Moscow and other Russian cities by mid-July 2023. In traditional stores, Russian wine occupies about 10% of the assortment. Anatoly Korneev, vice president of Simple Group, said that a new project called "Big Russian Wine" by Simple involves scaling a network of franchise wineries.

Market participants believe that the proposed format of wineries will not be in demand in all regions. Thus, the executive director of the Luding Group Ernest Khachaturian believes that stores with a focus on Russian wines will be more promising in the areas where wine is produced, as well as in Moscow and St. Petersburg. At the same time, you will have to compete with other wineries, alcohol stores and wine bars, where a wide range of Russian wines is already available. On the other hand, an increase in duties for imported wines is being discussed. Therefore, in this situation, the demand for Russian products will grow. A chain of stores dedicated to Russian wines may be an urgent project, since the segment is developing, among other things, thanks to state support.[1]
