2023: Start installing your own software at self-service cash desks

On July 18, 2023, Magnit announced the start of installing its own software (software) at self-service cash desks in stores. The software created by the retail network's IT team will allow the company to replace foreign software and extend the service life of existing terminals for self-payment.

As of July 2023, the fleet of self-service cash desks (CSR) of Magnit has more than 3 thousand units, by the end of 2023 their number will increase significantly. It is planned that in 2024 all CSRs will be equipped with their own software solution, fully developed in the company.

It took specialists less than six months to develop the first version of the software. In Pilot mode, the software is installed in test stores of various formats. Employees of the IT team complement the functionality for further scaling. In the next few months, it is planned to expand the pilot by 300 CSR. Its own software will allow the company not to depend on foreign product suppliers, independently carry out service, quickly complement the capabilities of devices, as well as significantly reduce the cost of operating terminals and reduce the amount of additional equipment. At the same time, the work of the software is significantly optimized in comparison with Western technology and will allow using the current cash register fleet without the need for expensive updates.

For customers, within the framework of their own development, the most convenient user interface is implemented. It includes a multitouch screen, the possibility of cashless payment and payment using QR codes through the Fast Payment System, the use of loyalty cards, the option to check the shelf life of dairy products using the Honest Sign labeling system, and more. Magnit plans to improve the user interface and client path by integrating CSR into a single ecosystem with the Magnit mobile application. Thus, buyers will interact with different services of the retailer in the usual and comfortable mode.

Ordinary cash desks for paying for purchases in retail stores also work on Magnit's own software.

As of July 2023, CSRs are used by an average of 65% of buyers of large formats of the Magnit retail chain and about 30% of buyers of convenience stores. Consumers using self-payment terminals are more likely to visit the company's outlets, their average check is 10% higher.
