Improved ad moderation

Yandex has improved the quality of advertising moderation by introducing a neural network. The company announced this on January 25, 2024.

In 2023, Yandex began using a neural network based on the DSSM (Deep Semantic Similarity Model) architecture for advertising moderation. This neural network is able to determine the semantic proximity of texts. Thanks to this, the accuracy of classification of ads that are prohibited from display or require permits has increased by almost a third.

The neural network is used in topics such as medicines, dietary supplements, alcohol and tobacco. To classify advertising of drugs and dietary supplements, data from official registries are additionally used. Yandex finds names from ads in the registries and uses YandexGPT to determine whether they have other values ​ ​ than medical ones. If the name is multivalued and its meaning depends on the context, the declarations are further filtered using a DSSM-based model.

Yandex also uses neural networks to protect users from unfair advertising. About 90 million listings are screened every day. In 2023, due to attempts to place fraudulent or prohibited ads, more than 214 thousand advertising accounts were blocked - 42% more than a year earlier. Algorithms also check the advertising network platforms. In 2023, for violating the rules, Yandex blocked and did not allow more than 17,500 sites, 15,500 applications and 2700 Telegram channels to participate in the advertising network.

Launch of the educational platform

Yandex Advertising has launched a platform for training specialists and entrepreneurs. Yandex announced this on July 18, 2023.

The educational platform contains all Yandex Advertising training content, including projects for setting up campaigns. With its help, marketers, entrepreneurs and contextual advertising specialists can receive training for business and career development for free. On the platform, you can watch live recordings, study courses, and also pass certification. Convenient navigation will allow you to quickly find the desired educational content.

The knowledge gained can be immediately applied in practice. Beginning participants can familiarize themselves with the work in the Directive, practicing experts - with its advanced configuration, and entrepreneurs - learn how advertising tools help achieve business goals. In total, 150 hours of educational content are available on the platform. In total, more than 80 thousand people were trained.

Around the projects of the platform, a community of contextual advertising specialists has been collected, which already unites more than 30 thousand participants.
