2016: Teradata Database Upgrade

On September 14, 2016, Teradata announced the launch and availability of versions for Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, VMware computing environments.

Teradata Database on Amazon Web Services

Data Base Teradata Database is available in the AWS Marketplace store, in more than ten geographical regions of the world. It comes in a mass parallel configuration with the ability to scale up to 32 nodes. Teradata Database for AWS provides high performance, reliability, and ease of upgrade. It has the functionality of:

  • automatic recovery in case of node failure;
  • Backup, restore, and query data stored in Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)
  • simplified automated deployment by means of templates for launching a software ecosystem.

Data Base Teradata Database on AWS is available in all regions except AWS GovCloud (an AWS region specifically created to provide to US government agencies and their contractors), South America and China.

Teradata Database on Microsoft Azure

The availability of the Teradata Database in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace will allow store customers to take advantage of a set of on-demand system capabilities, or pay for services as they use it. The product offers a fully functional configuration for mass parallel computing with the ability to scale up to 32 nodes.

Teradata Database on Azure is scheduled to begin sales in the fourth quarter of 2016 in most regions of the world, excluding US Gov Iowa, US Gov Virginia, Western India and China.

Teradata Database for VMware

Teradata Virtual Machine Edition (TVME) - A full-featured Teradata Database as a preconfigured, run-ready virtual machine image designed for use in any enterprise VMware environment.

Companies can leverage their existing virtualization infrastructure to deploy a Teradata data store that includes up to 32 nodes. The TVME version provides flexible licensing conditions that allow companies to scale configurations both up and down as data warehouse requirements change, and even use multiple virtual machines for specific testing and development tasks.

The product is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2016.

2015: Teradata Database equipped with software storage

On June 2, 2015, Teradata Corporation introduced a software-oriented data warehouse, a functional extension to the Teradata database.

The solution provides the ability to combine multiple storage into one system, without compromising its security and performance.

Software-centric storage capabilities increase the efficiency of Teradata (Teradata Workload Management), Teradata Data Labs, and the Secure Zone extension for the Teradata database. They help companies manage their data stores faster and more easily and provide:

  • multi-user implementation
    • the ability to manage data and users separately from different business units or organizations. Software-oriented storage eliminates the need for system administrators to view user data, if prescribed as part of the security or protection of personal data.

  • analytical services V2V
    • Simplifies hosting and management of analytics services for Teradata customer partners while maintaining a consistent level of performance - according to the defined scope of services provided to partners under each individual service agreement.

  • consolidating data marts
    • consolidating multiple "data marts" into a single system that reduces overall operating costs. It also makes it easier for users to take a look at data across the enterprise-with further partitioning of data, users, applications, and workloads from each "data mart."

  • analytical educational and experimental medium
    • Create easy-to-use data labs that deliver new levels of performance and performance without duplicating data or creating new storage.

In addition to software-oriented data storage, Teradata introduced a functional extension to the Teradata database called Secure Zones that divides data and user groups for each entity, providing security barriers between them. This will enable companies to meet the requirements of security and information protection laws that limit the exchange of personal data or the placement of data from enterprises or states within a single data warehouse.

As of June 2, 2015, the Teradata software-oriented data warehouse is available.

The Secure Zones functional extension will hit the market at the end of the second quarter of 2015.

2014: Teradata Database 15

On April 22, 2014, Teradata introduced the Teradata Database 15.

DBMS has gained the benefits of logical data warehousing.

File:Teradata-QueryGrid.jpg

Description

Teradata Database 15 processes analytical requests of many systems at once, integrates and processes JSON data. It is possible to write and execute queries directly in a database in non-SQL languages, use new analytics tools. Teradata Database 15 takes advantage of the concept of distributed data access and deep analysis underlying Unified Data Architecture.

Analytics capabilities

Teradata Database 15 offers new opportunities for analytics. The new Teradata QueryGrid software virtualizes the internal and external computing of Teradata Unified Data Architecture, helping companies send analytical requests to many systems. Built-in JSON support allows new data to be used for analytics and innovation without wasting time converting data. The ability to implement and simultaneously execute user code in SQL and other languages in the database provides high architectural flexibility, the developers noted.

The new Teradata Database expands dynamic capabilities, implements 3D representation and processing of geospatial data, simplifies management of workloads and system availability.

JSON: Adapting to Dynamic Data

Through Teradata solutions, JSON (Java Script Object Notation) data can be stored in data stores. The ability to directly analyze JSON data significantly increases the flexibility and adaptability of the organization to dynamic data, allowing you to build and improve business models faster. Teradata Database provides flexibility and simplifies data capture and retrieval from databases by supporting both the schema-on-read approach and the schema-on-write approach. Enhanced support for JSON in the database allows clients to analyze data in this format using all the functions and capabilities of Teradata Database.

Flexible architecture

Improvements to the new version of Teradata Database offer developers more data types, flexible application architecture, and a robust development environment without the need to learn new programming techniques for parallel systems. Several scripting languages are now available for development: Perl, Ruby, Python and R. In addition, both developers and SQL programmers can develop, implement and execute applications directly in the database without uploading them to a separate server, take advantage of the high performance of Teradata Database.

Working with the Analytics Platform Network

Data Base and analytics systems are evolving and intelligent communication between platforms is needed. QueryGrid allows Teradata Database 15 to work, both within and outside the Teradata Unified Data Architecture, providing bidirectional data sharing and top-down processing in open source Hadoop solutions. From Teradata Database, you can send requests to access, filter, and return datasets from Hadoop without the help of IT professionals. Teradata Database can analyze data even if it is not stored in the repository. This approach, also known as "logical data storage," works not only within the Teradata Unified Data Architecture, but also outside of it when connected to other databases.

Answer to the "three-dimensional" question

Teradata has expanded the capabilities of dynamic 3D geospatial analysis in databases. Adding the Z Axis allows you to analyze the relative height of structures or the height of the landscape above sea level. The 3D logic built into geospatial analysis will help answer complex business questions. For example, telecommunications companies will be able to determine the height of obstacles around cell towers that affect the coverage area. Insurance specialists will have the opportunity to identify flooding regions and calculate potential financial losses based on the estimated water level in insured homes. Teradata dynamic analysis script syntax meets all standards, and Teradata Database is optimized for some typical queries, so customers can quickly find solutions to business problems.

Additional features

A range of availability and maintenance features make Teradata Database even easier and more reliable than ever - systems run at maximum availability and queries run predictably. If something goes wrong, specialists from the Teradata Customer Services support center will be able to quickly find and fix the problem. There are many additional modules for Teradata Active System Management and Integrated Workload Management. They simplify management, enable customers to set recommendations that meet their goals and workload criteria, and share resources.

DBMS went on sale. Teradata Database 15 with Teradata QueryGrid support is expected to be released in the third quarter of 2014.
