Toilets started 3D printing. They don't need ruffles

In mid-August 2023, Chinese researchers from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan announced the development of a method for 3D printing of toilets, which are practically not polluted during operation.

Project participants note that there are many types of slippery toilet covers that prevent pollution from accumulating. This may be, for example, a Teflon layer. But all such coatings are not durable enough: the more the toilet is operated, the less slippery its protection becomes. As a result, efficiency is lost, and the coverage itself requires updating. The method proposed by Chinese specialists allows solving this problem.

The method of 3D printing of toilet bowls has been developed, which are practically free from contamination during operation

The technology is based on the use of a 3D printer. The toilet material used is a mixture of plastic and hydrophobic particles. A laser is used to solder them and form a complex structure. After obtaining the toilet bowl, the researchers lubricated its surface with a special silicone-based liquid, which was absorbed into the structure of the material.

Next, the project participants tested the toilet, pouring cloudy water, milk, yogurt, honey, starch gel and synthetic feces into it. It turned out that none of these pollutants leaves traces on the surface. What's more, the toilet remained just as slippery even after being wiped with sandpaper more than 1,000 times. This suggests that the silicone-based composition remains in the material structure for a long time.

Chinese scientists claim that the technology they developed significantly reduces the consumption of water used for flushing. In addition, you will not have to use a traditional brush to clean such a toilet. Any waste itself flows into the drain hole without leaving any dirt on the surface.[1]

Smart toilets and uroflowmeters are radically changing the approach to health control

Smart toilets and uroflowmeters (urine flow meters) are rapidly becoming more and more important and significant means of monitoring health. These innovative devices are designed to revolutionize the field of health control, offering a lot of benefits that can change the field of health care.

According to July 2023, smart toilets are, in fact, high-tech toilets equipped with sensors and artificial intelligence (AI). They can analyze waste and detect signs of a variety of diseases, including diabetes, cancer and heart disease. The data obtained can be sent to medical institutions for further analysis, which allows detecting diseases in the early stages and taking appropriate measures. This technology is especially useful for people with chronic diseases, as it allows continuous monitoring without the need for regular hospital visits.

In turn, uroflowmeters are devices that measure the flow rate of urine. They are usually used in urology to diagnose urinary tract diseases, but their capabilities are far from limited to this. By analyzing the flow of urine, these devices can provide valuable information about the state of human health in general. For example, a dramatic change in urine flow may indicate kidney or bladder problems, and a consistently low flow rate may be a sign of prostate problems in men.

Integrating smart toilets and urine flow meters into everyday life could have profound health implications, experts say. First, they can significantly improve early detection of diseases. Many serious diseases, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, often go unnoticed to a deep stage due to the lack of noticeable symptoms. By constantly monitoring the state of health, these devices can detect such diseases in the early stages, increasing the chances of successful treatment.

Second, these technologies can significantly improve patient convenience. Instead of visiting a hospital or clinic for tests, patients can monitor their health without leaving home. This will not only save time and reduce stress, but will also help reduce the burden on health systems.

In addition, data collected by "smart" toilets and urine flow meters can be used to inform public health strategies. By analyzing population-level data, health authorities will be able to identify trends and patterns, allowing them to respond more effectively to health crisis situations. For example, if the number of cases of the disease suddenly increases in some area, the authorities will be able to quickly take measures to contain the outbreak.

However, the widespread adoption of such technologies is not without problems. One of the main issues is privacy issues, as people may find it distressing to realise that their personal ones are medical data being collected and analysed. safety Securing these data will be crucial to winning public trust. In addition, technical obstacles such as ensuring the accuracy and reliability of devices must be overcome.[2]
