The Russian scooter rental service Yurent has organized a corporate data warehouse based on Yandex Cloud technologies. Thanks to the changes, the company reduced the burden on the infrastructure, significantly accelerated the processing and unloading of analytical reports, and also began to study new metrics about the consumption of software services. Until 2023, Jurent's analytics were built on operational tools and adhoc requests for work databases for private requirements. This organization of the process affected the operation of the application and the quality of service, so the company decided to create a separate repository (Data Warehouse, DWH) for such tasks based on Yandex Managed Greenplum and Managed ClickHouse. With the introduction of new tools, the company was able to effectively estimate supply hour - a measure of how long scooters and bicycles are available for use. Jurent makes sure that at least 80% of scooters are constantly available to customers, that is, they were not discharged, faulty and were not under repair.

For kicksharing, the key quality of work in the cloud is scalability. Most scooters are in demand from 16:00 to 19:00, when people return home from offices. On the Yandex Cloud platform, it is convenient to track the load on power and manage consumption limits. Autoscaling is configured for all services so that the application always works smoothly. Another plus is that it is easier to process and analyze data. Finally, due to seasonality, the costs of Yandex Cloud services in the winter months are reduced by about 30%, "said Andrei Kalinin, director of IT at Jurent.

In just a few years, the company has built a flexible and fault-tolerant infrastructure that effectively adjusts to changes in demand for the service. Jurent in 2022 completely transferred services to the Yandex Cloud infrastructure. The first step was to launch a microservice architecture using Managed Service for Kubernetes to quickly increase or decrease available capacity. On average, each scooter sends 1 message to the server in 30 seconds, a day the entire fleet sends about 250 million messages.

The load on the application depends on the season and on the number of scooters available for rent: in winter, when the service works only in the south, their number is reduced to 15 thousand, and in summer it exceeds 100 thousand. Each thousand devices additionally requires 2 CPUs of virtual power. The most active Yurent services are used in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi and Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm: the total park in these cities in 2023 increased more than 4 times.
