2023: Container Terminal Control Automation

On September 20, 2023, AXELOT announced that the Zhetygen transport and logistics center had automated the management of the container terminal.

According to the company, in order to create a large logistics hub on the border with China, which would allow unloading the transport hub of Almaty, a project was implemented to expand on-site access roads and build platforms on the territory of TLC Zhetygen LLP at Zhetygen station to transfer containers from rail to road transport and back. The railway tracks of the Zhetygen TLC receive containers with various cargoes, in the total amount of 2 million. tons per year, which are transferred to road transport, or stored at the container site for further loading on vehicles or railway transport, depending on the destination of goods. The area of the terminal is 49.61 hectares.

The AXELOT TOS system helped to implement the project. Within the framework of the project, it was necessary:

  • optimize the efficiency of use of areas, equipment, personnel;
  • Optimize the speed and accuracy of operations
  • Reduce storage costs
  • ensure linearity of processes;
  • optimising efficiency of cargo flow processing.

During the project, the processes of planning and performing the acceptance and shipment of containers on various types of vehicles (cars and railway platforms) were automated. In addition, a toolkit was implemented that allows for the prompt processing of containers and vehicles:

  • Automatic planning of delivery of railway platforms from exhibition railway tracks to loading and unloading depending on the properties of railway platforms and containers.
  • Manual planning and re-transfer of railway platforms from exhibition railway tracks to loading and unloading tracks and in the opposite direction through TOS Dispatcher's workstation.
  • Preparation and printing of accompanying documents during acceptance and shipment of containers, such as "Terminal Pass," "Route Sheet" with details for the car driver of the location of the container yard, area, places of loading and unloading operations.
  • Removal of the vehicle after loading and unloading operations through the automated workplace of the Checkpoint Dispatcher.

AXELOT TOS manages all container handling processes at the terminal, as well as controls the payment of services for these works. Implementation of data transfer functionality that reflects the fact of receipt and shipment of containers and payment for services from the client has become the main feature of the project.

Data exchange between the systems used in the operation of the terminal is needed not only to fix the start and end points of processes, but also to reflect the various stages of tasks. An extended set of details takes part in the data exchange, on the basis of which it is possible to invoice terminal clients online.

AXELOT specialists carried out work to automate and configure the integration of systems, for exchange with the corporate system localized for the needs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an adapted standard functionality AXELOT TOS was used.

The transaction data exchange stages have become an integral part of the key processes for processing receipts and shipments from the terminal. Thanks to the completed adaptation, it was possible to meet the customer's need for prompt receipt information related to financial reporting of cargo handling and storage services provided by the terminal.

In preparation for the start-up of the system, the balances after the inventory were entered without stopping the operation of the terminal, the processing of receipts and shipments of containers continued in parallel. Also, using the processing "Load balances," the data on receipts were collected and entered into the system into the virtual zone. After that, everything containers were moved to the actual location according to the address storage system using the mobile client AXELOT TOS.

After automation, all cargo processing processes at the Zhetygen TLC are carried out in strict sequence and in accordance with the established time frames and system events. In a timely manner, complete information on arriving and descending containers is collected and submitted to the accounting department of the enterprise. Areas, machinery and human resources are used optimally.
