2023: Entering the Russian Market

In September 2023, it became known about the decision of the Chinese company Open Source China (OSChina), the creator of the world's second largest open source software repository Gitee, to enter the Russian market. OSChina CEO and Gitee.com chief Yang Xu shared the plans.

According to him, OSChina is going to create a joint venture with Russian partners. As part of this project, it is planned to create a local portal that will present commercial Open Source products from China. At the same time, Xu stressed on September 21, 2023 that over the past three years, local open source software has been created in China to replace all Western software products, and Chinese state-owned companies, at the request of the country's government, are massively switching to it.

Open Source China decided to enter the Russian market

At the next stages, OSChina plans to organize the Russian version of Gitee-SaaS, then localize the Gitee platform for hosting open source products, then start distributing tools for DevOps and, finally, launch the Russian version of Hugging Face - an open library for learning, using and developing deep learning models in the field of natural language processing (NLP).

At the same time, the general director of OSChina did not specify who exactly could co-own the enterprise from the Russian side. But he is confident that OSChina's capabilities and resources will help Russia develop the field of open source software.

The success of this project will determine, first of all, the level of confidence in the long-term existence of its existence and the protection measures of the published code, believes Gennady Shcherbakov, head of the special development department of the CorpSoft24.

The technological component of such projects is approximately the same, the nuances of construction are not fundamental. It is important that the project is launched seriously and for a long time, - he added in a conversation with TASS.[1]
