2023: Import substitution of software infrastructure

K2 Tekh has completed a project on import substitution of software infrastructure at the Federal Competence Center. For 3 months, K2Tex specialists replaced Microsoft ecosystem products with domestic and Open source solutions at two FCC offices in Moscow, which have several hundred workplaces. Migration to independent software reduced the risks of IT infrastructure failure and data leaks. The company K2 Tekh announced this on October 16, 2023.

ANO "Federal Center for Competencies in the Field of Labor Productivity" is the operator of the national project "Labor Productivity" in terms of targeted support for enterprises. The organization aims to improve the quality of domestic goods and services, as well as to increase the level of competitiveness of the Russian economy. Historically, the FCC software infrastructure has been built on Microsoft ecosystem products.

After customers have difficulties in extending technical support and licenses, the task of replacing foreign software has become especially relevant. K2Tekh specialists completed a project to import substitution of Microsoft in two Moscow offices of the FCC. As part of the project, the team conducted an audit of the current IT architecture, designed a target scheme based on domestic and Open Source solutions, after which it migrated to a new import-independent software in 3 months.

The task of the FCC within the framework of the National Project is to help business and production improve labor productivity, based on the existing material and technical base, improving business processes and implementing successful management practices. We create a culture of high productivity and efficiency among organizations in every region of Russia. The FCC needed an import-independent IT infrastructure. K2Tekh experts designed it on the basis of the best software products and during the project helped the FCC IT team with the adaptation of employees to new solutions, - said Konstantin Krylatov, head of the FCC information technology department.

The alternative to Microsoft Exchange was the CommuniGate Pro mail system. Users can access it through the web interface or the Samoware client installed instead of MS Outlook at the workplaces. During the migration, the K2Tex team transferred all mail data, calendars, and employee contacts from the source system to the target system. For outside calls, CommuniGate Pro was integrated with the existing Asterisk telephone exchange.

As part of the replacement of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint products, K2Tex specialists have implemented the MyOffice office suite. For collaboration with documents, as well as their storage and exchange with other users, MyOffice Documents was integrated with the Open Source product Nextcloud. IT experts have set up Nextcloud tools so that the platform makes it possible to conduct video conferencing for 50 + users. The suite of solutions was deployed in a fault-tolerant configuration on 17 virtual servers.

To provide additional measures for information security systems cloudy in the FCC infrastructure, K2Tekh specialists introduced the Russian software package "Means" virtualizations Brest on the basis of the protected OS Astra Linux edition "Smolensk." During the project, IT specialists migrated MS Hyper-V several dozen virtual machines (VMs) from the platform to the Brest PC backup. A product was selected for VM and data. Cyber Backup

It is important to note that representatives of large companies are used to building infrastructure immediately on the default ecosystems of compatible products. And Microsoft is just one of the most striking examples. However, today not all Russian vendors have managed to develop such ecosystems.
