2023: Moscow presents updated rating of cancer hospitals

In November 2023, the Department of Health published an updated ranking of anchor cancer hospitals. It is based on medical indicators and patient feedback.

As specified on the website of the Moscow Department of Health, during the compilation of the rating, experts assessed the compliance of medical institutions with client ways of working with patients, ranging from diagnosis, treatment and ending with lifelong dispensary supervision. This is an open regulation, which prescribes a strict algorithm of actions in cancer: research, deadlines, necessary specialists, frequency of examinations and much more. Thus, the patient knows what assistance and when he will be provided.

When evaluating cancer centers, patients took into account the level of awareness of a person about the results of oncoconsiliums, the treatment plan, possible complications and others. Feedback from the townspeople was collected by personal assistants who accompany the person at each stage of treatment and diagnosis and are engaged in solving non-medical issues, for example, recording for research and reminding about visits to the doctor.

According to the results of the first nine months of 2023, the leader of the rating was the City Clinical Oncological Hospital No. 1 (medical rating - 4.7, patient rating - 3.8). In second place is the Moscow Clinical Scientific Center named after A.S. Loginov (medical rating - 4.3, patient rating - 3.2). Next are the Moscow City Oncological Hospital No. 62 (medical rating - 3.3, patient rating - 4.2), the S.P. Botkin City Clinical Hospital (medical rating - 3.2, patient rating - 4.0) and the Kommunarka Moscow Multidisciplinary Clinical Center (medical rating - 2.7, patient rating - 2.2).

The Department of Health noted that cancer rating demonstrates the transparency of medical services for patients and stimulates medical institutions to constantly improve their performance against the background of the achievements of their colleagues.[1]

This is a fundamentally new model of interaction between the patient and medical institutions, where not only the final result is important, but also the maximum comfort of the patient and the openness of the medical and diagnostic process. Feedback from patients, along with medical data, are the basis for the rating of anchor cancer hospitals, the department emphasized.

The rating of multidisciplinary cancer hospitals consists of two components:

  • Medical indicators that are updated monthly based on medical records. This includes, in particular, the implementation of all necessary studies, compliance with the deadlines for verifying the diagnosis and developing treatment tactics and other parameters;
  • patient feedback on the work of cancer centers. The questionnaires on which the survey is conducted comply with international standards. The level of awareness of a person about the results of research, the results of consultations, the treatment plan, possible complications and much more is assessed.[2]

Moscow Mayor's Office published a rating of anchor cancer hospitals in the capital

In June 2022, the mayor's office Moscow published a rating of anchor cancer hospitals in the capital. When compiling it, the timing of verification of the diagnosis, the conduct of an oncological consultation to determine the patient's treatment tactics and the timing of the start of specialized treatment were assessed.

The medical rating was supplemented by patient feedback. It is based on the results of surveys that have been conducted since the beginning of this year on questionnaires verified in international practice. The rating is as follows:

Moscow Mayor's Office published a rating of anchor cancer hospitals in the capital

As the deputy mayor of the capital for social development Anastasia Rakova noted, by June 2022, the city has been engaged in the development of the oncological service for the past few years. The first years were devoted to the transformation of the system as a whole, the creation of a new structure of assistance and the creation of a material and technical base.

The next stage is the development of a system for monitoring the use of client pathways for each disease. On a monthly basis, data are generated on the basis of medical documentation to monitor the fulfillment of deadlines and the quality of medical care provided in six hospitals. These data allow, firstly, to verify the correctness of the developed client paths, and secondly, to make the results of the work of medical institutions transparent and public.[3]
