2023: Product Announcement

On December 1, 2023, it became known about plans to launch the production of mitral heart valves in Russia. The authors of the development were scientists from the E.N. Meshalkin National Medical Research Center in Novosibirsk.

Scientists told TASS that they plan to start production in 2025. Product development is carried out under a grant from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Mitral valve bioprosthesis does not require open heart surgery and is delivered to the body by transcanal route. The prosthesis is designed to replace imported products on the market, and then enter the international market and create competition for foreign developments. In addition, scientists suggest that their innovation will help offer a scientific and technical solution for previously not fully solved medical problems.

The valve model created by scientists of the Meshalkin Center has no analogues in the world, since it has a more complex anatomical structure and has more functionality. Moreover, the valve is unique in terms of shape, method of attachment and treatment of biomaterial.

Find a design that works in the same way as natural, but convenient and safe for insertion with a catheter, so far no one in the world has succeeded. Foreign models that have already entered the market are not devoid of shortcomings and therefore are not widely used. World science continues to search for a gold standard, and in Russia we were the first to join this race, offering our original solution - commented on the development of the director of the Institute of Experimental Biology and Medicine of the Meshalkin Center, Doctor of Medical Sciences Irina Zhuravleva.

The frame, created from a nithylone tube, has high strength and shape memory - it can be bent when cooled. Thanks to this, its shape can be easily delivered inside the body, at which it will spread and take the desired shape, being at the destination. The biological part of the valve is made of pork pericardium and is manually squeezed using the latest anticalcium compounds during preservation of the product.[1]
