The Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve has supplied the domestic planetary scanner ElarSCAN A2-600R to create electronic copies of rare editions and ancient books. Elar announced this on December 20, 2023.

The creation of digital images of museum items is an important part of the museum's work. As of December 2023, more than 320 thousand museum items already have digital images, most of which are published on the website of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve in the "Online Collections" section, - said the museum specialists. This allows the general public and researchers to get acquainted with the collection of museum values.

The creation of digital images of the museum collection of rare, manuscript and old printed books, voluminous documents of the department of written sources on a specialized planetary scanner ensures the high quality of images and the safety of museum exhibits due to the envisaged gentle light effect on paper and parchment. This work has been systematically carried out at the museum since 2014 on Elar PowerScan K425-A1.

The choice of the model - ElarSkan A2-600R is due to the presence of a special cradle in this model, which makes it possible to scan rare and handwritten books (and there are more than 23,000 of them in the museum's collection) at an angle of 90 or 120 degrees, which ensures the safety of the book binding, - said Irina Valentinovna Efremenko, head of the Department of Photofixation and Digitization of Museum Objects of the Novgorod State Combined Museum-Reserve. - The high resolution of the obtained digital images will allow specialists - researchers, researchers, restorers to examine in detail all the features of the monuments of writing, and possibly make discoveries,

ElarScan scanners are included in the register of RAP (unified register of Russian radioelectronic products) and are a ready-made tool for organizing the processes of digitization of various types of documents in accordance with the requirements of regulators.
