2024: Launch of the world's first underground parcel delivery network by robots
On December 14, 2023, Pipedream Labs, in partnership with Curiosity Lab, announced the launch of the world's first underground parcel delivery network by robots. The system was launched in the American city of Peachtree Corners in Georgia.
It is noted that Peachtree Corners is actively developing the concept of a smart city, for which various systems and 5G technologies connected to the network are used. Peachtree Corners serves as some sort of springboard to demonstrate how government and the private sector can collaborate more effectively to create a better future for society and business. The world's first remote-controlled electric scooters, fully autonomous shuttles for transporting residents and other innovative systems for improving the quality of life, including the Pipedream underground logistics system, have appeared here.
The Pipedream network uses special underground infrastructure, in which robots move in different directions to deliver food, parcels, groceries, household goods and other goods to consumers in a short time. The autonomous system is said to offer numerous benefits for residents and businesses, such as reducing carbon dioxide emissions, reducing traffic congestion, reducing noise pollution, minimizing road accidents and cheaper, faster delivery.
The system includes above-ground portals with temperature control, through which parcels weighing up to 18 kg are loaded onto robotic trolleys. These carriers can travel at speeds in excess of 60 km/h. The movement is carried out through a network of pipelines. The developers compare their technology to teleportation. It is assumed that in the future underground delivery networks based on autonomous robots will appear in other cities.[1]
