2024: Creation of a stand for contactless automatic measurement of wheelsets
The IT laboratory UMNO digital has created a laser stand for contactless automatic measurement of wheelsets. Smart diagnostics prevent high metal consumption when turning parts. The company announced this on January 10, 2023.
Many enterprises use lathes without software when machining wheelsets. At the same time, the turner does not have accurate information on how much metal must be removed to restore the rolling profile of the wheels. Measurements are made by manual templates, which is not always accurate, errors occur due to the human factor. Therefore, often a larger layer of metal is removed than required. This reduces the lifetime of the wheelset. With smart diagnostics, you can get an accurate recommendation for turning - the robot scans the wheelset and displays the measurement results.
The device consists of 2D optical laser scanners, a switch, a tablet and a rotator. The software controls scanning and calibrates measuring instruments. Based on the data obtained, the system builds a wheel profile: calculates the thickness of the rim, ridge and inter-landing distance. The turner receives the most accurate forecast - how much metal layer to remove. The system will also inform the foreman about the deviation of wheel measurements from the standard values. All information is stored in the database. Innovation can be used as a boxed product or integrated into the information and accounting systems of the enterprise.
According to the developers' forecasts, when using a software and hardware complex, the saving of rim thickness per diameter with four turns will be up to 5.6 mm. This adds 1.5 years of life or 100 thousand km of operation to the wheelset. Savings at an enterprise where 500 wheelsets are repaired monthly can reach 6 million rubles a year.
The IT development of the UMNO digital laboratory for January 2024 is undergoing pilot operation and is planned for implementation in 2024.
