In the process of migrating information systems, it is especially important to ensure business continuity and maintain the relevance of data in both systems - old and new until the final transition. One way to update data in this system is through incremental migration, which is the step that follows the bulk migration step. It involves performing certain actions on data in the new system - adding, changing, deleting them, similar to the old system. This method is useful, among other things, for the temporary parallel operation of two systems with data synchronization between them.

Ora2PgSync applies after the completion of the main data migration when users continue to work in Oracle DBMS with automatic transfer of data changes to PostgreSQL DBMS until the final transition to this platform. Through synchronization, the tool helps you make a quick transition to the client part of the software working with Postgres, with minimal downtime.

The Ora2PgSync tool, which converts the received DML commands of the Oracle DBMS into PostgreSQL DBMS commands, was developed in Java, uses archived redo logs of the Oracle DBMS processed by the Oracle LogMiner utility as a data source. The operation mode parameters are configured in json configuration files.

Other software products with incremental migration capabilities are also known. But some of them are not officially available in the Russian Federation, some are too difficult to configure or cannot be used on their own without installing and configuring the accompanying software. Unlike them, Ora2PgSync is easy to set up and operate, available for customers, does not require additional software installation and is registered in Rospatent and the Register of Russian Software.

To perform the main data migration, customers are offered another specialized development of FORS Telecom - Ora2PgCopy, which has proven itself in the market.
