2024: Representation of the "Codieum" mechanism
Employees the Russian of the company "" Kryptonite(part of the "ICS Holding") presented the cryptographic "Codieum" mechanism. It will remain persistent even after the advent of a powerful quantum one computer capable of hacking the latest algorithms enciphering traffic. The developer announced this on March 22, 2024.
Quantum computers are being actively developed around the world. According to analysts, they will be able to solve practical problems in the field of cryptography as early as the 2030s. If the forecasts come true, many online services (from online stores to large state portals) will be at risk as attackers can decrypt the transmitted data.
To avoid this, fundamentally different, post-quantum defense mechanisms are needed. It is to them that the "Kodieum" refers. It was developed by specialists of the cryptography laboratory of the Kryptonite company Victoria Vysotskaya and Ivan Chizhov.
The "codium" is based on a class of problems that will remain computationally difficult even for quantum computers. It will protect the secrecy of correspondence in instant messengers, bank transactions and any other data that is transmitted over the Internet and in other communication networks.
When a quantum computer appears, no act of secure communication will be possible without post-quantum mechanisms. For March 2024, data is transmitted over the Internet in encrypted form and can be collected by intermediate nodes in order to decrypt them later, after creating a quantum computer of sufficient performance. Therefore, we believe that we need to use post-quantum protection algorithms now. If we do not do this within the next 2-5 years, then it will be too late, "explained Ivan Chizhov, deputy head of the cryptography laboratory for scientific work at Kryptonit. |
Technically, "Codieum" is a post-quantum analogue of the Diffie-Hellman protocol. The Codieum allows you to securely transfer an encryption key to create a secure connection.
"Codieum" is based on the mathematical problem of the complexity of decoding a random code that corrects errors. Another post-quantum protection algorithm is based on the same class of problems, which was also developed in Kryptonite - the post-quantum electronic signature scheme Rosehip. Both mechanisms for March 2024 are undergoing a standardization process.
