2024: Appointment as Director of MONIIAG

In March 2024, Roman Shmakov was appointed director of the Moscow Regional Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology named after Academician V.I. Krasnopolsky (MONIIAG). He replaced Vasily Petrukhin, who headed the institute since 2017 and left it in December 2023. After Petrukhin's resignation, the duties of the head of MONIIAG were temporarily performed first by the deputy for scientific work Nina Zarochentseva, and then by the chief physician Artur Shakhnazaryan.

By March 2024, Roman Shmakov is the chief freelance obstetrics specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health, assistant professor of medical sciences and professor at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). Before heading MONIIAG, he served as director of the Institute of Obstetrics of the National Medical Research Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after ACOD. V.I. Kulakova. For 20 years, Shmakov has been dealing with the problem of managing pregnancy in women with various oncological diseases, developing algorithms for managing such pregnant women and studying the impact of the disease on pregnancy and the health of a newborn.

The new appointment of such an experienced specialist to the post of director of MONIIAG should ensure the preservation of many years of traditions, the development of advanced technologies and practices accumulated within the walls of one of the leading obstetric and gynecological institutions of the country, - said the Minister of Health of the Moscow Region Alexei Sapanyuk, representing the team of the Moscow Regional Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology named after Academician V.I. Krasnopolsky new leader in the person of Roman Shmakov.

MONIIAG is the leading medical institution of maternity care in the Moscow region, in which operations are carried out for women in labor with complex diagnoses. In 2023, about 65 thousand consultations were held at this institute, about 2 thousand births were accepted, almost all of them complicated.[1]
