On March 27, 2024, MegaFon announced the start of the introduction of Russian routers in its networks. The Russian telecom operator chose the equipment of B4Com.

MegaFon used IPBH (IP Blackhaul) equipment to connect base stations. The company noted that routers will help increase bandwidth and ensure uninterrupted communication services.

As MegaFon told Vedomosti, the new equipment is capable of passing traffic at a speed of 100 Gbps, and also allows organizing one or more backup routes for passing traffic to base stations to ensure uninterrupted communication. In terms of its technical characteristics, it is comparable to foreign counterparts that the operator used earlier, a company spokesman said.

By the end of March 2024, the devices B4Com installed at several dozen base stations in Moscow, Tatarstan and the Sverdlovsk region. User traffic passes through this domestic equipment. In the future, the new equipment will be introduced in other regions of Russia, MegaFon said.

We have been testing various types of Russian-made network equipment for several years, due to which we are significantly expanding the pool of our suppliers. The installed routers will multiply the capacity of MegaFon PJSC's transport network, which meets the annual increase in subscriber traffic and the needs of our B2B customers, "said Andrey Krishtofovich, Director of Transport Network Development at MegaFon.

The publication notes that MegaFon is likely to have become the first operator from the Big Four (it also includes MTS, Beeline and Tele2) to begin import substitution of telecom equipment. Previously, telecom companies only tested Russian equipment.[1]
