The funds of the State Budgetary Institution "GIASO" contain more than 611 thousand storage units (including documents of the former party archive of the Sakhalin regional committee of the CPSU). Of these, more than 8 thousand units of storage of film documents and over 24 thousand photo documents, as part of the research and reference library - more than 22 thousand books and other printed publications.

Most of the archival documents cover the period from 1925 to our time, but some of the originals belong to the pre-revolutionary period. These are, in particular, metric books, the earliest of which is the "Metric Book of the Alexander Church on Sakhalin of 1869," documents of the military governor of Sakhalin Island, documents of district police departments, as well as documents in Japanese related to the period of the governorship of Karafuto (South Sakhalin).

Specialists of the State Budgetary Institution "GIASO" have been digitizing documents for more than 10 years, as well as developing an automated information system created on the basis of the AIS ELAR-Archive.

GBU "State Historical Archive of the Sakhalin Region" is an archival institution of the Sakhalin Region, which has been digitizing archival documents since 2011, actively introducing electronic services, methods and practices of lean production into its work, - said Igor Viktorovich Sobolyuk, Acting Director of GBU "GIASO," - All electronic copies of archival documents are posted in the GIS "Unified Archival Information System" of the Sakhalin Region.

In 2024, it is planned to digitize 42,000 sheets of archival documents on the ElarScan A2-400 scanner.

This ElarScan A2-400 planetary scanner will allow you to carefully scan various types of sewn and embroidered originals of the format to A2 in contactless mode and high resolution. The V-shaped cradle is adjustable to the desired format and degree of opening - 90, 120 or 180, allowing you to scan originals up to 15 cm thick and weighing up to 15 kg.
