2024: Results of the transition to Red OS

PGUTI (Volga State University of Telecommunications and Informatics) works on Red OS. Red Soft announced this on March 28, 2024. The university trains specialists on the basis of five faculties: cybersecurity and management, information systems and technologies, digital economy and mass communications, optical and quantum communications, radio communications and radio engineering systems. The university accepts over 1,200 applicants each year, with a total of over 7,500 students. The teaching staff of the university has more than 260 people.

The structure of PGUTI also includes the Orenburg branch and the College of Communications. In addition, in 1996, the Samara Regional Telecommunications Training Center (SRTTC) was organized on the basis of the university, which is engaged in advanced training and retraining of technical specialists and management of companies in the region in several areas.

In 2022, in order to implement the import substitution policy, the PGUTI leadership decided to transfer the IT infrastructure of the university to the Russian operational system. The project was also aimed at increasing the experience of using domestic software by students and teaching staff of the university, as well as its integration into the educational process.

PGUTI chose RED OS as the import-independent operating system.

The RED SOFT agreement with PGUTI was concluded in mid-2022. As part of the agreement, all workstations of the university were transferred to the RED OS operating system in a short time, as well as most of the teachers' personal computers - more than 1000 licenses. The university also additionally purchased 200 licenses for RED OS for administrative needs and the economic part.

In addition, on the basis of the Samara Regional Telecommunications Training Center (SRTTC), an Authorized Training Center RED SOFT was created. 4 employees of PGUTI received certificates of a teacher in RED OS. Through certified teachers, university employees were trained to work on the operating system - 240 people in 2022 and 186 people in 2023.

Already from September 1, 2022, PGUTI students began their studies at the RED OS. In total, more than 4,000 students were trained in the 2022-2023 academic year using the domestic operating system.

The RED SOFTWARE training center in SRTTC became the first authorized training center on the RED OS operating system in the Samara region. Now he has the opportunity to conduct advanced training courses in the direction of RED OS. As of March 2024, the program of the training center includes training on two tracks - "Fundamentals of RED OS Work" and "Fundamentals of RED OS Administration."

In general, PGUTI is actively working on import substitution issues. The university organizes scientific and practical seminars, to which leading specialists of domestic IT companies are invited. Disciplines for the study of equipment and software of Russian manufacturers are introduced into the training programs.

In 2022, we decided to import substitution of office software, and the first thing we needed was to decide on the operating system on which the IT infrastructure and educational process of the university would be built as a foundation. The future system should be built on a reliable foundation of the corporate level, be convenient to work and be developed in Russia. After analyzing various proposals, as well as taking into account the extensive experience of interacting with various infrastructure solutions, we settled on the RED OS operating system. As of March 2024, 1,150 jobs in classrooms and administrative departments were transferred to RED OS - this is more than 90% of the total number of computers at the university. It should also be noted that for the transition to domestic solutions, not only OS licenses and good documentation on the developer's website are important, which, it should be noted, is one of the most affordable and detailed among competitors, but also high-quality training of users to work on the new platform. We are grateful to RED SOFT for the opportunity to promptly certify our specialists, open an authorized training center, which, in turn, allowed us to teach basic skills in working with RED OS to university employees and teachers, - commented Mikhail Lemzhin, Vice-Rector for Informatization and Educational Technologies at PGUTI.

The user is the main link in the import substitution process. And he needs to be trained to work on domestic software from school. An even more complex task is to train highly qualified personnel for the Russian IT industry. Following this vector, RED SOFT actively cooperates with educational institutions, colleges and universities, providing free rights to the company's software products. So we are contributing to the future. And we are glad that Russian universities look with us in the same direction. We thank the Volga State University of Telecommunications and Informatics for their trust, - commented Rustam Rustamov, Deputy General Director of RED SOFT.
