2024: OS development

In mid-April 2024, information appeared that the Chinese manufacturer of household appliances Haier was developing an operating system for TVs and smart household appliances in Russia. The use of such a platform is expected to improve the monetization of devices and protect against possible sanctions from the United States.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, Haier has published on the job hh.ru a technical manager and project manager Evo TV. We are talking about creating an OS based on open source Android (AOSP). It is assumed that the new system will be used on Haier TVs for the Russian market instead of Google TV (a modification of Android TV with an interface from Google). In addition, Evo TV is planned to be used on smart refrigerators with a touchscreen display and consoles for controlling a smart home.

Market participants say that Haier "realizes the possibility of losing access to Android TV in Russia due to Google policy." Another reason for creating an OS for the Russian market may be the desire of the Chinese company to increase advertising revenue in applications. The development of your own operating system allows you to customize it for the needs and preferences of users and integrate local services with media content.

SberDevices notes that its own TV platform creates "significant competitive advantages," since "it develops taking into account the habits of the Russian user and reliably works regardless of external circumstances." Anton Guskov, a representative of the Association of Trading Companies and Manufacturers of Electric Household and Computer Equipment (RATEK), believes that Haier, according to the Evo TV project, creates a platform for several markets, and not just for the Russian Federation. In this case, the company may need Russian specialists to adapt the OS to local regulatory requirements.[1]
