2025: Modernization of the DWDM network in the Krasnodar Territory

RTK-Service helped modernize MegaFon's regional DWDM network in the Krasnodar Territory. RTK-Service announced this on February 19, 2025.

As a result of the work carried out by RTK-Service engineers, the telecom operator refused to lease optical fibers, and also provided additional network redundancy in Anapa.

The modernization of the regional network section carried out by RTK-Service included the transition to a new optical route on the Anapa-Novorossiysk section, the organization of a transit DWDM hub in the village of Verkhnebakansky, as well as the reconfiguration of the hub in the village of Yurovka.

As a result of the work carried out, MegaFon provided additional network redundancy in Anapa, while increasing the capacity of the transport DWDM network by 40 Gbps.

The work was carried out at 8 operator sites, not only in the Krasnodar Territory. Some components were dismantled in advance by RTK-Service transport engineers from communication centers located in Moscow. This made it possible to reuse the existing equipment without resorting to its additional purchase.

At the end of the upgrade, RTK-Service engineers configured network elements on the ECUS control system (MegaFon's unified network management center).

RTK-Service specialists carried out the whole range of work, ranging from dismantling equipment at donor sites, to local testing and setting up network elements and channels on the customer's control system. Despite the tight deadlines for the implementation of the project, all work was completed within the declared period and with the required quality, - commented Alexander Kastrykin, Technical Director of RTK-Service.

2024: Work begins on DWDM equipment

MegaFon engaged RTK-Service to carry out a set of works with DWDM equipment (spectral channel compaction technology), which includes: pre-design inspection of the facility and selection of the optimal equipment configuration, development of network design, construction, installation and commissioning works, as well as integration of equipment into the existing operator infrastructure. A separate task was to expand the capabilities of IPBH (Blackhaul) - networks in the multivendor network scheme. The cooperation is designed for the period until 2025. RTK-Service announced this on May 13, 2024.

In order for communication to remain high quality and reliable, the operator needs to carry out regular equipment upgrades for the DWDM transport network. This is a key element of the network that allows you to increase its bandwidth as traffic grows. In addition, it makes it possible to simultaneously serve more subscribers, while maintaining stable operation of communication channels.

A distinctive feature of MegaFon's DWDM networks is the use of ASON technology for automatic optical channel switching. It allows the telecom operator to build the next generation networks, which are distinguished by a high level of scalability, reliability and quality of service provision. As of May 2024, there are literally a few specialists in Russia trained to work with this solution. And RTK-Service has such competencies.

The growth of traffic and quality requirements for digital services provided to customers also requires expanding the capabilities of IPBH networks. Therefore, in the regions, MegaFon is modernizing networks built on the basis of Western, Russian and Asian manufacturers. For this, the operator also attracted RTK-Service, which can quickly organize work in any region.

The development of new generation high-tech communication networks is a very complex process, since they have a large number of equipment from different manufacturers, and each component must be seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure. Therefore, it is effective for us to cooperate with a team that can work with each vendor both separately and combine all kinds of configurations, observing. SLA MegaFon is addressing the strategic challenges of network development in order to consolidate its position and build a customer-centric business model, "said Andrey Krishtofovich, Director of MegaFon's Transport Network Development Department.

As of May 2024, the telecommunications market is experiencing an acute shortage of expertise both on new Russian solutions and in terms of foreign manufacturers. Access to foreign knowledge bases is closed, so it is difficult to fill the gaps in skills in working with such equipment. Customers often switch their resources to more strategic tasks, so they are looking for a partner who can close the development and support needs of the turnkey IT landscape. Our Competence Center has great capabilities - resources that are used in the laboratory to model the customer's infrastructure and test equipment from different vendors, as well as all the necessary competencies to ensure the full range of required work, - said Andrey Kononenko, General Director of RTK-Service.
